This tour's solo

Post by Slaine mac Roth »

I've been listening to a bootleg from the opening night of the tour today (if you haven't got it let me know and we'll see what we can sort out). Has anyone else who's got it, or seen them yet, noticed that, during his drum solo, Neil throws in a little bit of Pieces of Eight?

Remember, I live in England and haven't seen Rush live for 12 years and, on the live albums, I don't tend to plat too close attention to the solo

Momo's Dance Party and Pieces of Eight are both short percussion songs that Neil came up with while playing around with and learning to incorporate electronic drums and triggered sounds back in the eighties. Thus, he has been incorporating pieces of them in his drum solo for a while. He's also been throughing in parts of a little Max Roach piece called The Drum Also Waltzes...a kind of homage to a real drummeister!

Is that what that swing bit is called?

He's been doing that for at least a decade, I think...
Wheels within whells, a spiral array
A pattern so grand and complex
Time after time, we loose sight of the way
Our causes can't see their effects
