When we swap instruments during band practise I often bellow these pearls in time to an e-minor punk riff .Neil Peart wrote:Some are born to move the world -
To live their fantasies
But most of us just dream about
The things we'd like to be
Sadder still to watch it die
Than never to have known it
For you - the blind who once could see -
The bell tolls for thee...

Right, your loved ones are being held hostage by nasty wicked persons and you're forced to offer one lyrical segment of Rush as a favourite...so, one section of wisdom/inspiration or else the loved ones will be forced to listen to hip-hop

Its very difficult to pick just one as there are so many. I think, if any, it would probably be
When life becomes as barren
And as cold as winter skies
There's a beacon in the darkness
In a distant pair of eyes
In vain to search for honour
In vain to search for truth
But these things can still be given
Your love has shown me proof
Makes me think of my wife.
When life becomes as barren
And as cold as winter skies
There's a beacon in the darkness
In a distant pair of eyes
In vain to search for honour
In vain to search for truth
But these things can still be given
Your love has shown me proof
Makes me think of my wife.

ugh, i could NEVER pick a fave, but for me (and my family members), it'd hafta be from Bravado:
If we burn our wings
Flying too close to the sun
If the moment of glory
Is over before it's begun
If the dream is won -
Though everything is lost
We will pay the price,
But we will not count the cost
When the dust has cleared
And victory denied
A summit too lofty
River a little too wide
If we keep our pride -
Though paradise is lost
We will pay the price,
But we will not count the cost
the lyrics of that song have NO equal! i just love it, & those are most definitely words to live by!

Yep, sooo hard to pick a favourite but you simply have to you know? The Losing It excerpt has been with me for soo long now. I may just upload the gedawful jam featuring the afore mentioned lines (and mygoodself on guitar ).
I have to admit that I leant on Rush these past four/five weeks big time. No need to explain how inspirational, how lifting the material is but it's good to know that in time of need they're always here, just like you guys .

Don't know if you've heard it, but a recent big hit in the UK, that's still getting heavy radio play, called Dry Your Eyes sums it all up for current music. Its crap as well.happysmilies007 wrote:not that there's anything wrong with that.. i'd much rather lean on RUSH in hard times than..oh say..the crap kids my age listen to nowadays! all the songs are seriously depressing!Ogg wrote:I have to admit that I leant on Rush these past four/five weeks big time.

Hey Slaine', Grrr, my eleven year old son loves 'The Streets' (he even BOUGHT a copy) so I hear it every day .Slaine' wrote:Don't know if you've heard it, but a recent big hit in the UK, that's still getting heavy radio play, called Dry Your Eyes sums it all up for current music. Its crap as well.
For the uninitiated it's a kinda garage/rap thing but thoroughly English, clever lyricist at times but alas not for me. I used to turn off 'DYEyes' when it came on the radio.

Great choice of lyrics BTW. I love that song.
