OK, let's go:

RUSH Solid debut but nowt special
Favourite: Here Again - great bluesy song with a fantastic solo from Alex
Least Fave: Take a Friend - cheesy and throwaway, makes me cringe

FLY BY NIGHT Was this only one year on????
F: By-Tor - sheer brilliance, virtuosity and aural excitement
LF: Beneath, Between and Behind - just doesn't seem to gel and sounds a bit forced.

CARESS OF STEEL Overambitious and flawed but still special
F: Bastille Day - what more can be said?
LF: I Think I'm Going Bald - sounds hurried and like a last minute filler

2112 WOW - that's not thunder, that's my jaw hitting the floor
F: Twilight Zone - Great lyrics and a wonderful arrangement
LF: The run off groove on my vinyl copy - its over!

A FAREWELL TO KINGS Possibly the greatest art rock album ever
F: A Farewell to Kings - beautifully crafted with some evocative lyrics.
LF: Madrigal - still great but not on a par with the rest.

HEMISPHERES enjoyable if a little pretentious
F: La Villa Srangiato - sheer virtuosity. Probably the best rock instrumental of all time
LF: Armageddon - I just think Ged's vox sound a bit silly

PERMANENT WAVES Rush's transtional album - something special
F: Different Strings - beautiful and heartfelt with some lovely guitar cut off too soon.
LF: Entre Nous - A little bit lightweight for my taste

MOVING PICTURES THE greatest album ever
F: Red Barchetta - simply the greatest song ever written
LF: I haven't got one. I love this album from the sound of the sleeve/cd box being taken from the rack until the sound of it being put back

SIGNALS Decent songs let down by iffy sound and WHERE@S ALEX?
F: Countdown - a great docu-song where you can actually hear Alex
LF: Chemistry - don't know, just don't like it

GRACE UNDER PRESSURE Cold and chilling - the album that sums up 1984
F: Afterimage - a very personal song that always brings a tear to my eye
LF: Between the Wheels (believe it or not). Nothing wrong with it, just don't like it as much as the rest

POWER WINDOWS I either love it or hate depending on my mood
F: Marathon - sheer exillerence
LF: Mystic Rhythms - see comments for BTW

HOLD YOUR FIRE breathtaking
F: OPen Secrets - one of the forgotten gems. Great music, great lyrics
LF: High Water - just never listened to it as much as the others due to it being cut off the version I taped for use in my walkman

PRESTO solid and competent
F: Red Tide - some of Neil's most evocative lyrics.
LF: Show Don't Tell - just seems a bit too disjointed for me

ROLL THE BONES the rock brought back, YES!
F: Neurotica - definitely underrated, a fantastic piece of work
LF: The Big Wheel - I closed my eyes and pointed my finger

COUNTERPARTS keeping the momentum going
F: Cold Fire - love the lyrics and Alex's riff is a killer
LF: Spit it Out - growing on me but still none too keen

TEST FOR ECHO Can't say I love it but I don't hate it
F: Resist - I'm part Scots. What else do you need to hear.
LF: Virtuality - just sounds a bit contrived

VAPOR TRAILS great songs but painful to listen to at times
F: Earthshine - my jaw dropped so much atr Wembley I'm surprised it didn't dislocate
LF: Freeze - just can't get a handle on it

FEEDBACK Kick back and paaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrty
F: Heart Full of Soul - just great
LF: Mr Soul - not too sure

Here's my tuppence worth:

RUSH Good solid album. Derivative but nice
Favourite: Here Again - Superb stuff. Cracking vocals and moody solo from Lerxt
Least Fave: Working Man- Boring, boring, boring - its been done to death

FLY BY NIGHT Paerts first impact - embryonic prog
F: By-Tor - Fantastic first stab at epic song - raw, blistering instrumental sections
LF: Rivendell- ZZZZZZ.

CARESS OF STEEL First truly great album
F: Lakeside Park - if you want to know how to play rhythm guitar properly, Lerxt shows you how its done
LF: The Necromancer- unbearably cheesy narrative lets this down

2112 Stunning- what more can I say?
F: The title track - can't say any more really
LF: probably Tears though its still pretty good!

A FAREWELL TO KINGS A fine album, marred by naivety in some places, but a good effort
F: Xanadu- Cracking early epic
LF: Cygnus X-1- Dire beyond words...truly awful

HEMISPHERES Their finest effort to date - Rush at their very peak
F: Hemispheres- Its got it all really
LF: Circumstances - Only by default, its still superb

PERMANENT WAVES The run of form continues-new direction for the boys
F: Freewill- The very essence of Rush in five minutes
LF: Jacobs Ladder - plodding and tedious

MOVING PICTURES Fantastic stuff - darker directrion than previous album
F: TCE- The lyrics are exquisite, and the music....well!
LF: Witch Hunt - Not the same standard as the rest of the album

SIGNALS Great album, a real grower
F: Subdivisions - was there ever a better "teen angst" song?
LF: Countdown - mince

GRACE UNDER PRESSURE stark and bleak production, dark and threatening
F: BTW - cracking
LF: Red Sector A - awful

POWER WINDOWS great album very much of its time
F: Marathon - the best chorus in any song
LF: Mystic Rhythms - a litttle tedious

HOLD YOUR FIRE Incredible album, almost cinematic and operatic!
F: OPen Secrets -what Slaine said :D
LF: High Water - crap, along with Tai Shan

PRESTO The last truly great album
F: Presto - wide eyed innocence that brings a bittersweet catharsis
F2:Available Light - spine tingling brilliance
LF: Anagram - forgettable, and the anagrams aren't even that good!

ROLL THE BONES dire slump in form
F: RTB - best of a bad bunch
LF: all the rest

COUNTERPARTS NEXT!
F: Animate - almost bearable
LF: Nobodys Hero - a howler of the first magnitude. What were they thinking of?

TEST FOR ECHO Whew! a paretial return to form at least
F: TFE - very strong track, brooding menace
LF: Virtuality - Have you heard the chorus...embarrasing beyond words

VAPOR TRAILS unforgiveable production, some songs pretty good, but far too much filler and not enough killer...would have benefitted from being a lot shorter
F: Earthshine - Very evocative - pity about the live vocal dubs though
LF: Freeze - One of the worst songs ever written...truly a comedy of errors

FEEDBACK KERR-CHING!....rubbish
F: The Seeker- ok, but not up to the originals standard
LF: For What its Worth - murdered
Ach, if Dougie was here he'd tell you himself....

Good topic.

Rush

Favorite: "Working Man"

It's just a great main riff (very Sabbath-ish), and great solo section.

Crap: "Take A Friend"

Alright music, but awful lyrics. Thank god for Peart.

Fly By Night

Favorite: "By-Tor & the Snow Dog"

Just brilliant.

Blah: "Fly By Night"

Very ordinary. I don't see the big deal about the song.

Caress of Steel

Favorite: "The Necromancer"

Lots of awesome bass riffs, and the guitar melody at the beginning is genius. Love it.

Hitting the snooze button: "The Fountain of Lamneth"

The "No One At the Bridge" segment is great. The rest of it? Not so much.

2112

Favorite: "2112" (entire suite)

Love it.

Wimpy ballad alert: "Tears"

Yuck.

A Farewell to Kings

Worship this song: "Cygnus X-1"

Picking a favorite from this nearly flawless album is difficult, but I guess I'll hand it to this one.

I said NEARLY flawless: "Closer to the Heart"

I just never liked it, and wish they'd stop putting it on all their live albums (yeah I know, it's a popular song).

Hemispheres

Holy crap, dude: "La Villa Strangiato"

Could this song possibly kick enough ass? Best instrumental ever.

Meh: "Circumstances"

Not a bad song by any means, just not on the level of the other songs on the album.

Permanent Waves

Love it: "Jacob's Ladder"

What a great song. I'd love to see it played if I ever saw Rush live.

Wimpy ballad alert: "Different Strings"

I usually just skip right to "Natural Science". *shrugs*

Moving Pictures

11 minutes of kicking ass: "The Camera Eye"

Probably my favorite Rush song ever.

Hmmm: "Vital Signs"

I don't dislike it, I just like the rest of the songs better.

Favorite: "The Weapon"

I could only imagine this song being great live, which is why I picked it.

Did Sting write it?: "New World Man"

One of the very few times Rush stopped being themselves and started being someone else, in this case The Police, and I never liked The Police.

Grace Under Pressure

Bad Ass: "Between the Wheels"

Man, those keyboards are just so friggin' awesome. This song is so hopeless and grim that you wonder if the band started taking antidepressants after recording it.

Meh: "Distant Early Warning

I can't listen to this song without thinking of that silly music video with the kid riding the rocket. Probably the only reason I picked it.

Power Windows

Difficult Choice: "Marathon"

Beats out "Manhattan Project" and "Territories" by a slim margin. The first verse has such an awesome bass line to it.

Arrgh: "Mystic Rhythms"

Blehg. The live version of this song is way better. I mean waaaaay better.

Hold Your Fire

This was easy: "Force Ten"

The only song on the entire album that I actually really like.

Worst Rush song ever: "Time Stand Still"

I hate it. I want it to die. I simply can not stand this song. And since it's the worst song on what is (in my opinion) Rush's worst album, that really says a lot.

Presto

Damn dude, this song jams: "Show Don't Tell"

Love it. It's like the prog-Rush of old sneaking back to kick our asses for buying Hold Your Fire.

Errr...: "Scars"

Ick.

Roll the Bones

Kickass instrumental alert: "Where's My Thing?"

Nearly as good as "YYZ" in my opinion. Awesome song.

At least they didn't put Macauley Culkin in the video: "Roll the Bones"

I actually like this song, but that rapping segment...sheesh...

Counterparts

Hard choice: "Alien Shore"

This was an extremely hard choice, since "Stick It Out", "Cut to the Chase", "Double Agent" and "Leave That Thing Alone" are also highlights of this album. I just think this song is awesome, and usually hit repeat on it once or twice. In fact, almost every song on here is good on some level. What a great record.

Once again, I said ALMOST: "Cold Fire"

Yuck.

Test for Echo

Rush will kick your ass: "Test for Echo"

This was almost "Time and Motion", because I vary between this song and that one as far as a favorite.

Want some Rush with that cheese?: "Half the World"

Goofy radio oriented tune. That is all.

Vapor Trails

I think my head just got caved in: "Peaceable Kingdom"

Holy crap, Rush goes chaotic! I'd love to hear it live. This song is is meant to be experienced at a deafening volume, preferably while driving (but drive safely!!).

Well, it doesn't suck, but: "One Little Victory"

I don't dislike any song on this album. In fact, I think it's their best since Moving Pictures. This song just happens to be the lowest rung on the ladder for me.

And that is all.
