Curious question

Post by rushlight »

Anybody read Visions? Rush biography by Bill Banisiewicz? There was a part in the book when John Rutsey was still around. Geddy was kicked out of Rush and he went to find some other band for awhile. John was the one who said Geddy's spotlight should be turned off. Do you think he was jeolous of Geddy? :?

I have only read part of it. I don't know if he was jealous or what. Hmmmm.....

Maybe. Geddy was drawing people to him with his voice and I guess John felt ignored. Then again John was probably going through his own problems which later made him decide to leave the band.

when was the book published?
I'm in motion.
I am still.
I am crying.
I am still.
I'm together.
I'm apart.
I'm forever.
At the start.

Still... I am.

Right after Hold Your Fire.

You can find it on eBay now-a-days, but it's been out of print for quite some time.
Don't tell me about rock and roll I'm out there in the clubs and on the streets and I'm living it! I am rock and roll!

You can also read the book on line "in toto" here:

The early beginnings of the band are, I think, indicitive of any band starting in those days. Even Alex didn't want Neil as the drummer at first when Rutsey left but Geddy convinced him.

The best answer you'll find anywhere (Visions, Rush FAQ, alt.music.rush, etc.) is, 'personal reasons'. Some sources say that he was sick with some long term illness (like we always hear that Neil has cancer), while others say he just wanted to do the band as a part time thing, and had no desire to go on any sort of tour.
