Extreme: new music, new tour!

Post by DoctorX »

I found a great interview with Gary Cherone. He says he's been writing new songs with Nuno and that there might be a bigger full-blown tour if a new album is ever released! That must be one of the coolest news this year! :-D

Rest In Peace
Tell Me Something I Don't Know

I think both Extreme and that song are very misunderstood.

More Than Words is not a love song. It's a very subversive song about a womanizer, who is trying to convince a gullible bird that he loves her, in order to get her in the sack. It's about as much of a love song as Every Breath You Take, or Silent Lucidity.

Extreme had loads of songs with that sort of sly angle, but most people will never give them credit for it. They have the horrible stigma of starting out as a hair band, and ascending to popularity with a pair of ballads. None of this changes the fact that Nuno and Gary are an excellent songwriting team, and they formed one of the best hard rock groups of the last twenty years. Nuno is an arrogant asshole, and Gary is a stereotypically flamboyant homosexual, but I love them anyway. The musicianship is also spectacular.

and if that doesn't have you convinced, check out their performance at the Freddie Mercury tribute show. THe Queen medley is just...

Yes, yes, and yes.

More than Words and Hole Hearted were the aforementioned hit ballads. They were both on the album Pornograffitti. That was an excellent disc, though I like their third album even better. III Sides to Every Story. It's an absolute masterpiece.

I don't mind Extreme, but Nuno annoys me a bit playing with his guitar, not playing it.

And Gary did blow with VH!

Nope, still dont get it, never did and never will either. Extreme are shite mate and I'm certainly wise enough to know that a couple of ballads do not make a band. I watched the Queen medley and it barely raised a pulse imho. Pretentious guitarist and a cliched singer...I mean 'Get the Funk out' c'mon for Geds sake. I hated them then and I hate them now and always...and other bands of their ilk, bunch of wankers the lot of em :-D .

I know, I know but you have to give me this one rant. I'm usually more tolerant and you should all know I'm normally quite polite but Extreme (it's a small mercy they didnt name themsleves Xtreme) and diverse others, namely the whole cinderella ratt poison warrant "lets partaay" thing grates on my nerves. Maybe I shouldnt pigeonhole them with these foul others but I'm going to anyway  Shite, the lot of 'em...bunch o' wankas :-D .

Ogg, I am not sure I know what you mean to say. Next time you have an opinion on something, please don't hold back. Just let us know what you think.

*wink*

I think we can agree that we won't all agree. I mean, after all, I like sushi.

It's ok. My dad likes to eat kippers and I run from the room because of the horrible smell.

I like mushrooms and D.A. thinks it's like eating slugs. :P
I love my Welshman.

Oh, I don't begrudge Ogg his opinions. It's no secret that hair bands and all other sorts of hard rock from the '80s were full of false bravado and pretentious fawning.

*psst* the REAL secret is that prog and heavy metal have this same trait *psst*

Walkinghairball: Amusing. I actually wish Nuno would pull out his chops and play up to his potential again. When he played for Extreme, he was one of the most innovative and unique guitarists in the world. Now he creates banal AOR tunes, set in pop punk or folk rock formulas. He's trying to gain legitimacy as a singer/songwriter, but has confused "understated" for "pedestrian."

He has chops and all that I agree, but like Yingwee J. Marmolade :-D and George Thorogood, and a few other guitarists........Vai, Satch, E. Johnson, I tire of the guitar masturbation they do. But I can name drummers that do the same. Just my buckfiddy brother. :-D

Gene Simmons once said....................~"What's wrong with a great power chord that cracks yer ribs. What's with a billion notes that sounds like a swarm of angry bees, awh shut up."~
