Thanks for posting that link, BBO. I loved that commercial as a kid. And I loved it when they parodied it on the Simpsons too.
Now I can finally show it to my kids.

His name was Iron Eyes Cody. The commericial first aired on Earth Day 1971.

I remember the first time my big brother and I saw it together. It brought a tear to our eyes as well. Then my brother ran off to tell my mom about it. (that's how I remember it anyway)

that is something I'm strict about...my kids do not litter....they're pockets come home with all sorts though

oh my GOODNESS, BBO! You just brought me back to being a kid and seeing that for the first time. I think that was the first time I felt profound sadness and I remember feeling so helpless. My first experience of true empathy. I never forgot it.
I guess that's why I'm such a nut about litter and pollution now.
Ah, the 70's. Talk about planting seeds!
