I think we're talkin about Dougie the superstitious ship?s mate of the Vital Spark on the show (book, movie) Para Handy. Sean Scanlan plays him.

Yep. I've always loved the Para handy books and the original series, so i was chuffed when they re-ran it again a couple of years ago.

The slightly odd sense of humour just tickles my funnybone. :-D
Ach, if Dougie was here he'd tell you himself....

Later on it did, as I played a lot of Rugby (before I got injured) and at my peak I was 6'4" tall and 250lbs with not an ounce of fat on me. The height has remained the same, but sadly the fat......

However, that's not the original reason which is a story for another day :-D

Oh, and Fridge. That's exactly the humo(u)r that gets to me as well. Also the likes of Rising Damp, Last Of The Summer Wine, etc.

It's shows like that that keep me going. Postage from there to the states is a pisser, though. I've probably spent more on that than the videos themselves :)

Sorry. I meant the actor in the series who played Dougie also played Capt. Hook (see ugly pirate picture)...and from that can you guess which of the guys on the Vital Shark is Dougie?

Actually, I like the Neverland angle :-D

Obamas Gave Less Than 1 Percent of 2000-2004 Income to Charity

By Ryan J. Donmoyer and Julianna Goldman

March 25 (Bloomberg) -- Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama and his wife Michelle gave $10,772 of the $1.2 million they earned from 2000 through 2004 to charities, or less than one percent, according to tax returns for those years released today by his campaign.

The couple earned more than $2.6 million in 2005 and 2006 after the Illinois senator published a bestselling book in 2005. They donated $137,622 over those two years and made their church, Trinity United Church of Christ, one of the biggest beneficiaries of their philanthropy, donating $27,500. Obama is under scrutiny for his ties to the church because of comments made by its senior pastor.

We're seeing a lot of stories about how rich the Clintons are, now that the tax returns have been released. Plenty of analysis about where their millions came from.

But this headline caght my eye (and dragged it fifteen feet) and reminded me of this thread...

All charitable donations in '06 were to Clinton Foundation

Gee... how generous of them...

Yeah. This really got me...
During that time, the Clintons paid $33.8 million in federal taxes and claimed deductions for $10.2 million in charitable contributions. The contributions went to a family foundation run by the Clintons that has given away only about half of the money they put into it, and most of that was last year, after Mrs. Clinton declared her candidacy.

Yeah. There's nothing wrong with a family charitable foundation. Unless you keep the money you donate to it. :-D
