Legal system gone awry

Post by zepboy »

Here's one for ya. I can't stand what I am seeing happen in our legal system. We are no longer concerned with the rule of law. Instead, we are a bunch of pansy pick-a-ninnies with our panties in a bunch because of our feelings. Forget what's right, it's all about how we feel. Here's an instance I would like to share with you. A couple is on trial for beating their child, resulting in his death. Now, don't ged me wrong. I love children, and I would do whatever I can to protect one from the voilence adult perpetuate against them. Nonetheless, check out this quote about the prosecuting attorney when wrapping up her argument :

"Josef would have been 12 Friday, prosecutor Eleanor Dixon said. In her closing argument Wednesday, she sang "Happy Birthday" to the dead boy, leaving the defendants in tears."

I found this while checking out the news this morning. What kid of crap is this? The dead boy's birthday, nor the song should have any bearing in this case. There is not a single law on the books anywhere in the United States about the birthday being a mitigating factor (aside from age delineating a child from and adult) or the song "Happy Birthday" in a murder trial.

Rather, the prosecution chose to sway the jury by yarding as hard as she can on their heart strings. Feelings in a murder trial are NOT facts, and therefore should never be used as a determining factor in a person's guilt.

Thoughts?

I'm with ya on this one, Zep. Completely and totally inappropriate. It borders on mistrial, I think. Why didn't the defense attorney shout OBJECTION throughout the ditty?

Who was the judge, Simon Cowell?

Dunno BBO, but I see stupid stuff like this go on all the time.

Why aren't level headed people expressing a wee bit of outrage?

how do y'all think O.J. got off? HUH??? WHAAAAT?

that's S.O.P. in 'Courtroom 101'.

Swing the jury and you're golden.

How do ya think so many Dads get screwed in custody cases?

Because they're made to look like animals to a jury.

Granted, some of them should be sent so-far-away-they-can't-hear-dogs-bark, but still...it's all about impressionable jurors.

hey, look at the Anna Nicole case!

that judge is SO trying to ged his OWN reality show... it's SICKENING.

he should Ged a 'Oscar' for the performance.
Don't start none...won't be none.
