We don't have TV in our home for the very reason you pointed out. There is way too much filth going out on the air; not just violence, but also sex, various forms of deviance, rebellion, disrespect, idiocy, and the list goes on (as infinitum, ad nauseam).
Zep, I respect and possibly admire yours and T's steadfast refusal to not have a television in the house. Parents taking the initiative to make life better and less dangerous for their children is a daunting task to say the least. My first thought was; Well then, how do you watch porn? :-D Just kidding.
Seriously though, I just zipped through 111 channels on cable and didn't see one naked tit, not one act of penetration! Now, I did see deviance, rebellion, disrespect, violence (on CNN - we were shooting the hell out of Iraqis and they were blowing us up with IEDs), Idiocy (Bush on MSNBC).
But some things need rebelling against. Some people do not deserve our respect. Deviance? Everybody got to deviate from the norm. And seeing displays of idiocy helps to let one understand what is not.
However, just one wayward click of the mouse takes me to sites where every one of the horrors you list are all on the same page.
What's my point? I have none really. I just enjoy the interlocutor of ideas between folks with fundamental differences, all plopped cheek-by-jar on this planet. The most we can hope for is mutual understanding, tolerance and respect. I call it The Brotherhood Of Creation.

As to gun control; I'll probably leave that topic to those that feel strongly about it one way or another...plus I don't want to get shot!

We must not also forget the VA/WVA Mine Wars. (It was the biggest DOMESTIC mobilization of US troops since the War Between the States.)

I'll take this opportunity to note once again that Americans are inherently violent, one only has to look at our history and it speaks for itself.

A point about the topic "GUN CONTROL" I never did say one way or another, if I was for or against gun control. I talked about the why
an am curious to know what others think about the "WHY" that is really the issue "WHY" the violence. Digging deep within my thoughts, what
I wrote is the way I see some of the problems of violence in our society.
It goes deeper than just TV, parents, economy etc... it's just not one fiber, it's the whole cob web.

Here violence gets the ratings and ratings = $

When ever I think about the "WHY" all the problems in the world. I always seem to come, to one word... "GREED" but not always just most of the time.
When evil is allowed to compete with good, evil has an emotional populist appeal that wins out unless good men & women stand as a vanguard against abuse.

The following is a paid advertisement on behalf of Zepboy. They do not reflect the opinions of management, nor are they intended to be offensive to others:

I believe it's a God thing. Man rebels against God, trying to show he is able to live without Him. If man can prove he can truly be in control, then there is no need for God.

I also believe that if there were no God, man wouldn't have the natural desire to rebel.

Zep....you crack me up! Way-to-go with the disclaimer!

You make a good point too, except you forgot to include those of us (Cyg included) that also have to resist the overwhelming temptation to choke the life out of those who annoy us. hahaha

Heheh...I 'wonder' who you refer to, Cyg. No I don't, actually.

I thought of an interesting spin on what you said, Zep;

I believe it's a gun thing. Man rebels against the gun, trying to show he is able to live without it. If man can prove he can truly be in control, then there is no need for guns.

I also believe that if there were no guns, man would be able to resist the natural desire to kill.

That was awesome! :D

Our natural desire is what we fight against in order to better ourselves.
For the natural man is an enemy to God, and has been from the fall of Adam, and will be, forever and ever, unless he yields to the enticings of the Holy Spirit, and putteth off the natural man and becometh a saint through the atonement of Christ the Lord, and becometh as a child, submissive, meek, humble, patient, full of love, willing to submit to all things which the Lord seeth fit...
