T, H & I all picked up our copy's yesterday and it's quite impressive. I guess you could say it's a far cry from anything they have done in the past. ( just me messing with words again ) I do like what I heard for one listen. My first thought was here we go on the merry-go-round of life again. I'll have to give it some time to process what I get out of it.
When evil is allowed to compete with good, evil has an emotional populist appeal that wins out unless good men & women stand as a vanguard against abuse.

RushFan and I got our copy yesterday too! :-D We played it four times and with each spin it gets better and better!

Stand outs for me include Faithless and The Way The Wind Blows. Of course all three instrumentals are amazing. But would we expect anything less?

I love Schu's comment about Geddy's bass playing and how he "politely reminds" us of how incredible he is.

I definitely agree with Pan about how some of the songs don't seem to gel between lyrics and music but, as I said earlier and I'm sure she did too ;-), they are all sounding better and better.

Looking forward to hearing them translate live!
I don't have faith in faith, I don't believe in belief, You can call me faithless, I still cling to hope, And I believe in love, And that's faith enough for me... Neil Peart

H and I listened to it a bit in Kev's car on the way home from the store, a bit on his stereo and then over and over once the Judas Priest album ended on our trip back to NY from visiting Kev and Gina. I think we went through it about 5 times.

I like the music, quite like it, although it surely isn't hard the way I had been led to believe by reports and Neil's writings. Still, the music is well done, and it gives my mind much to chew on, which is something I want in music. The lyrics, well...I haven't gotten all of them yet, as the mind kept going to this or that music line, lol but they are definitely what I expect from Neil. From what I have gotten so far, they are thoughtful and deal with the human condition. They are life-examining too. It is good to have to think.

For now, I enjoy the instrumentals, Far Cry and The Way the Wind Blows. Is it just me, or does the music seem muted for the most part? Were they trying to make up for the over the top production of Vapor Trails?

The first nine studio albums are still my favorites, ok I'm old........... :P
I'm in motion.
I am still.
I am crying.
I am still.
I'm together.
I'm apart.
I'm forever.
At the start.

Still... I am.

Not muted, but often muddy. Still, much more listenable than VT.

Oh yeah forgot to mention in my review, the album packaging and book are great as well. The photos and graphics were very well done.

My view on the packaging is................

I don't really like the front cover art, or the fact that it is paper.

I prefer the plastic cases.

The book and back cover rock.

I am not a musical critic. I like it very much. I love all of Rush's stuff except possibly Rivendell.
Happy 2015!
