Hey, that's awesome! Tune one to a chord for easy strumming, play leads with the middle, have the sound man echo a chord progression while the 12 string has a glorious chorus/orchestral setting while soloing like a madman!

Glad he was sitting down. Glad I was too.

Very nice to see Billy Sheehan from Talas and Mr. Big again. Ever see him do a bass solo?

The other unique thing about the bottom neck is that it's fretless. :)

Yes, I have seen Billy do a bass solo. I remember two Rush shows where Mr. Big opened up. Mr. Sheehan was what kept me interested. I'd been reading about him in Guitar Player for some time, so when I suddenly and unexpectedly saw him onstage it wsa a thrill.

Steve and Billy worked together for David Lee Roth right after his split from Van Halen. It was a huge tour and when Steve talks about it his eyes still light up from the fond memories of that tour.

(sing along now)

It was Christmas Eve babe
In the drunk tank
An old man said to me, won't see another one
And then he sang a song
The Rare Old Mountain Dew
I turned my face away
And dreamed about you

Got on a lucky one
Came in eighteen to one
I've got a feeling
This year's for me and you
So happy Christmas
I love you baby
I can see a better time
When all our dreams come true

They've got cars big as bars
They've got rivers of gold
But the wind goes right through you
It's no place for the old
When you first took my hand
On a cold Christmas Eve
You promised me
Broadway was waiting for me

You were handsome
You were pretty
Queen of New York City
When the band finished playing
They howled out for more
Sinatra was swinging,
All the drunks they were singing
We kissed on a corner
Then danced through the night

The boys of the NYPD choir
Were singing "Galway Bay"
And the bells were ringing out
For Christmas day

You're a bum
You're a punk
You're an old slut on junk
Lying there almost dead on a drip in that bed
You scumbag, you maggot
You cheap lousy faggot
Happy Christmas your arse
I pray God it's our last

I could have been someone
Well so could anyone
You took my dreams from me
When I first found you
I kept them with me babe
I put them with my own
Can't make it all alone
I've built my dreams around you

Sheehan and Vai are perfekt for each other!

Billy doesn't get the theory that Steve lays out, not head-wise, but he can always figure out what Steve means and comes up with just what Steve wants.

Didya hear Steve Vai cut his daily workouts on the guitar down to 9 hours so the rest of us can catch up?

In a very different vein...
You've probably all seen the OK Go video they made of themselves on treadmills (if not, watch it... it really is worth the 3 minutes). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pv5zWaTEVkI This was a brilliant move on their part to market themselves. Every highschooler in America has seen that video now.

So, what I think is totally cool is these four highschoolers recreating the whole thing live in front of their classmates.

That must have taken a lot of work. And listen to their audience going absolutely nuts for them! The reaction couldn't have been better if OK GO had been there themselves!

edit: Oh cool... here's the same thing at a different high school assembly. Camera work isn't good. But the crowd reacts exactly the same. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FmmqQDFiHzE

This has always been one of my nominees for greatest lyrical passage in pop/rock music. The honesty, the passion, the wit...
