John Bonham grooves...

Post by KaelMwithascrubbrush »

So everybody, in honor of the Zeppelin gig (may it not be rescheduled again), what are your favorite John Bonham grooves?

I think mine have to be (not in any particular order):
  • The Ocean
    When the Levee Breaks
    Fool in the Rain
    Immigrant Song

Somewhere (I lost the bloody CD again!) I have just him grooving on this song. You can hear (very faintly through his headphones) what he's playing to, but can you say POWER???

I forgot "All of My Love," the first Zeppelin song I encountered when I were a wee lad.

I noticed something interesting from the pics I've seen:
  • 1. Jason played a Ludwig Vistalite set, even though he is endorsed by DW. I'm sure the people at DW weren't too happy about that...but, it's Zeppelin, what're they gonna do? I wonder if it was one of his dad's actual sets. I'll bet it was.

    2. He played Zildjian cymbals, even though Bonzo played Paiste. Personally, I think Jason made the right call. I don't like Paiste (even thought I have a Paiste ride...I'd love to get rid of it).

pay attention to Bonzo playing the double-kick in this version of "Communications Breakdown"...

(it's actually a vid of Pink Floyd folks wishing LZ well on their London gig)

Communication Breakdown But I'm picking the nit....

They hid his second bass drum because it acted as a resonating chamber and made Bonzo even louder.

My bad Zed. You are correct Sir.

When I saw VH on the 1984 tour, Alex had FOUR bass kicks with connecting tubes between them...Nize.

Oh NO DOUBT My Brudda.

They fessed up to it after the tour was over....

In fact, they had amp/PA cabs the entire length of the stage, but
only a few were actually being used.
