Last night's gig

Post by ElfDude »

We had a different kind of a show last night. It was in the same theater that you see in most of our YouTube videos. But this time we were the house band for that theater?s ?Classic Rock Night?. So, we were to go on and play a half-hour set, and then it turned into open mic night. Anyone who wanted to come up and perform could do so. If they wanted to be on their own, fine. If they wanted us to accompany them, well? they could ask and we?d try.

Though my brother was sick with flu, our little set went very well.

? Footstompin? Music
? Gettin' Older (an original tune of ours)
? Oh Pretty Woman
? Summertime Blues
? Wooly Bully
? Jailhouse Rock
? Twist and Shout
? I?m a Believer
? Johnny B. Goode

Then we got off the stage and a young man with an acoustic guitar took the stage and did a couple of songs, including a nice version of Across The Universe. He was followed by a couple of guys, one with a voice and a harmonica and the other with an electric guitar. Most of my band joined them for a couple of blues numbers. The evening went on with a number of different people coming up asking us to accompany them on different tunes (even some of their own originals). By the end there were a whole bunch of us on the stage and wrapped up the night doing Blue Suede Shoes and Everybody?s Tryin? To Be My Baby.

A good time was had by all. A couple of things I enjoyed:
Playing for an audience of amateur musicians, everyone was very appreciative of each others performances. Lots of warm applause.
It was the first night for us to all wear our new band ?uniforms?. We did indeed look classy. And as others came up on stage we definitely stood out.

T?was also the first chance I?ve had to play that new red amp you see in my sig pic in a show instead of in my living room. It performed very well for me. Pleasing tones.

So? enough rambling. Just had a good time and thought I?d share with my friends here.
Aren't you the guy who hit me in the eye?

I am not overstating by saying that your narrative actually brought me into your experience enough that I feel some of the elation that you do right now (understater!) and I am VERY appreciative that you shared your experience with us in such a colorful way.
I only wish we all could have been there.

Love the Elfdude!

Sounds like a cool gig. The best part of jams like tha is opening the ears and really flying blind at times. I like it, it keeps me on my toes.

The bad part....................TrAiNwReCkS!!!!!

Still good fun though, and I would and will do it anytime.

Good job Elf! :headbang:

BTW - Looking at your setlist, I have a suggestion:

you GOTTA do the old Chambers Brothers tune "Time Has Come Today" . .

Good dance tune. Chicks dig it, and you don't need any effects but a delay...and a COWBELL. :-D

I was in a classic rock trio (I was a drummer then) and we played that one every gig.
Don't start none...won't be none.
