The docu of the drummer auditions they put together was really cool, if you haven't seen it yet. Mangini is a super beast though, for sure. He can do things with 1 hand I couldn't do with 4.

These were the other drummers going for the seat.................


* Aquiles Priester (age 39) (ANGRA, PAUL DI'ANNO)
* Peter Wildoer (age 36) (DARKANE)
* Marco Minnemann (age 40) (KREATOR, NECROPHAGIST, EPHEL DUATH, JOE SATRIANI)
* Virgil Donati (age 52) (PLANET X, SEVEN THE HARDWAY)
* Derek Roddy (age 3Cool (HATE ETERNAL, NILE, TODAY IS THE DAY)
* Mike Mangini (age 4Cool (STEVE VAI, EXTREME, ANNIHILATOR)
* Thomas Lang (age 43) (JOHN WETTON, ROBERT FRIPP, GLENN HUGHES)



All top shelf drummers..............Donati, Roddy and Lang especially.

Donati impressed me the most tbh, he had neat takes on things and the fact he can play like that with a traditional grip.... On the other hand I understand the bands standpoint not wanting to change on their well established tunes, but when you are inviting world class drummers in, they are going to want to give it their spin.

Oh yeah, all great in their element, but as far as being able to play what they have, and stay in that mix..........Mangini is the best pick.

Virgil is a bad ass with traditional grip I agree fully, and has such taste.
