Me too, EJ. You can hear and almost feel the edginess and
uncertainty as they jumped into the fire.

It's raw, bare-boned rock. No electronics, no fluff and no filler...

Just ROCK.

My personal peeve song: Fly By Night

***uhhhhuhhuhhhuh***

***Cringes***

(Notice that during interviews, Ged says there are songs they will
NEVER play live again - FBN is definitely on the short list.) hahahaha

Come on Cyg, FLY BY NIGHT rocks! I always driver faster when i'm listening to that song. That, The Camera Eye, and a few others.

As for Rivendell....awesomely crafted song!

Well, it did...the first 20 times I heard it...

Then it kinda grows on you....like a wart that you need to freeze off
because you're sick of looking at it. hahaha

I'm with Ged on that song. Send it to the vault!

You know what old-school Rush DOES rock though?

All solos of "The Necromancer." In-your-face guitar if I EVER heard it.

Nice and gritty and angry. King Lerxst pummels the ears with a candy
store full of tasty bends, flurries and runs. Then, when he stomps that
stereo/chorus pedal toward the end...there it is: Icing on the cake.

And hey, the louder it's listened to - the better it gets.

Call me crazy, but I can't think of other Alex guitar solo that even comes
close to it...To this day.

IMO, 2112 wasn't even that raw, but the latter is a whole other ball game.

I can't believe you said that! I could NEVER utter such words about
any RUSH song.

And Yes, The Nnecromancer is phenomenal!

Yeah, I've never heard a Rush song I didn't love for one reason or another (or many.)

What a song says makes a difference to me. Songs that are the most special to me and the ones that touch me most are ones with lyrics that speak to my heart. There are songs I enjoy that I disagree with, however. I find it difficult to really get into a band whose lyrics don't do anything for me, even if the music is really good. I think that is why, as talented as they are, I've never gotten heavily into Van Halen.
Ditto.

I loved the sound of Snakes and Arrows, but a lot of the lyrics... not so much. I hope Neil is feeling a little more optimistic this time around. :-D

Something tells me that when he "tells it like it is" this time, it will be a more optimistic view. :-)

Hope so. If the complaining trend were to continue it might end up sounding something like Grandpa Simpson.

Snakes and Arrows ROCKS.

INCLUDING the lyrics.

A couple of months ago I pulled into a gas station and had Malignent Narcissism cranked. I left my car and went into the store for a soda and when I came back out this dude was standing next to the door and watched me walk out to my car (with his head bobbing, by the way) and then asked me who it was on my stereo and with a smile on my face I proudly proclaimed "RUSH! It's thier Snaked and Arrows CD" and he said "That song Rocks, it's awesome!" Still smiling I said thank you, got in my car, started the song from the beginning and cranked it harder!

No, that story had nothing to do with the Lyrics of that album, but how can you not dig "like the cliffs along the ocen I will quietly resist" never mind the chorus of "Faithless"...that chorus is awesome! And I am defenitely not faithless, but I fucking LOVE that song. I can't help but sing along with it when I play it. Granted, that's true of all RUSH songs I listen to, but somehow it's different...like i'm absolutely compelled to sing along. Especially the Chorus.

It seems that you and I view/hear that album completely oppositely. I dig lyrics that express disdain for a bad situation, or "Truth Songs." I see no reason that music has to be falsely positive in order to spark positive feelings. For me it was like, "Yeah! I think such-and-such blows too! And won't it be sweet when we fix THAT issue.
Well, we did fix that issue and a few others, but even if we hadn't, all of the "Walkin' On Sunshine" songs won't make it seem any better...to me, anyway. :-)
