Here is what is going on 2 blocks away from my house. And a good family friend lives across the street from the whole thing.
Officer-involved fatal shooting in North Spokane

Posted: July 10, 2009 09:03 AM PDT
Updated: July 10, 2009 10:46 AM PDT

SPOKANE - Right now, investigators are on scene of a fatal officer-involved shooting at 1817 E. Courtland. Spokane Police said it started in the 1300 block of E. Glass, where a man forced his way into a home, beat a woman with a skateboard and stabbed her dog.

The woman, Tara Tanner, was taken to Holy Family Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

One of the four people in the home said he does not know the man who broke in. He said he was asleep, heard a loud bang on the door just after 8:30 a.m. and found an intruder in his living room. The dog, 'Molly,' a black pit bull with white markings, is still missing.

An officer reportedly saw a man walking around with a knife in the 1800 block of E. Courtland and confronted him. Police say that man then stabbed the officer, who suffered non-life threatening injuries. The officer called for backup and the stabbing suspect was shot and killed.

KHQ has a crew on scene and is working to learn more details.
I drove right passed it to get home. The place was a zoo. I tried to call the friend but got her voicemail. I don't think she or her's are involved in any way, but I will find out.

Freakin tweakers. :x

I found out they found the dog around 2:30 pm that day and got it to the vet to save it from bleeding to death. There is also a donation thinger to cover the bills. Other than that I will have to search the news on the gal that got beat up.

Police Chief Denounces 'Cowardly' iPhone Users
Monitoring Speed Traps

By: Hayley Peterson
Examiner Staff
July 7, 2009

Area drivers looking to outwit police speed traps and traffic cameras are
using an iPhone application and other global positioning system devices
that pinpoint the location of the cameras.

That has irked D.C. police chief Cathy Lanier, who promised her officers
would pick up their game to counteract the devices, which can also help
drivers dodge sobriety checkpoints.

"I think that's the whole point of this program," she told The
Examiner. "It's designed to circumvent law enforcement -- law
enforcement that is designed specifically to save lives."

The new technology streams to iPhones and global positioning system
devices, sounding off an alarm as drivers approach speed or red-light
cameras.

Lanier said the technology is a "cowardly tactic" and "people who overly
rely on those and break the law anyway are going to get caught" in one
way or another.

The greater D.C. area has 290 red-light and speed cameras -- comprising
nearly 10 percent of all traffic cameras in the U.S., according to
estimates by a camera-tracking database called the POI Factory.

Lanier said the cameras have decreased traffic deaths. Red-light and
speed cameras have been a hot topic in Montgomery County since
Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley signed a bill in May allowing local
governments to place speed cameras in school and highway construction
zones.

Montgomery County police did not respond to calls and e-mails for this
story.

Ralph Ganoe of Silver Spring said he uses detection software from a
Washington-based company, PhantomAlert, to avoid speed traps and
crowded intersections.

"Well, my pocket has money in it," Ganoe quipped, when asked about the
software's impact on his driving record. "Everybody's got a heavy
foot. ... Now I don't have to worry about where [the cameras] are at."

PhantomAlert mimics radar detectors ? which are outlawed in D.C. and
Virginia ? by alerting drivers of nearby enforcement "points of interest"
via global positioning system devices. PhantomAlert keeps up to date on
traffic enforcement through its users, who contribute information online.

Founder and CEO of PhantomAlert Joe Scott claimed nine out of 10 police
departments across the country support his software.

"If police come against us, it's going to make them look like they are only
[after] revenue" from the camera-generated citations, he said.

Photo radar tickets generated nearly $1 billion in revenues for D.C. during
fiscal years 2005 to 2008.

In the current fiscal year, Montgomery County expects to make $29
million from its red light and speed cameras. Lanier said efforts to outlaw
the software would be too difficult.

She said, "with the Internet and all the new technology, it's almost
impossible to stop the flow of information."
Don't start none...won't be none.

So let me see if I understand this- she would rather collect the $1B in revenue and have the people drive like Mario Andretti- than have the people use the app and drive safer?

(If that is the case, her thinking has FAIL written all over it)

I live in this town, but I don't know anyone involved (other than Lt. Dave Caron), thank goodenss.
SPRINGVILLE -- Springville police are trying to sort out what happened between a couple before the man shot and killed a 40-year-old woman and then killed himself. The couple had a history of domestic violence in recent weeks.

Springville police had arrested 46-year-old Brian Sebastian on two occasions for domestic violence; once in November 2009 and then again last month.

They say the victim, Jeanie White, not only refused help from a victim advocate, but also would not cooperate in prosecuting the suspect.

There is evidence the victim was trying to leave the suspect when she was murdered.

Lt. Dave Caron, with the Springville Police Department, said, "One officer said there was a bag that was there, like maybe she was going to grab her stuff and leave."

Springville police went to the duplex at 1243 S. 550 East Monday just before 10 p.m. to check on White. Her daughter called police after no one had heard from her since Sunday.

When officers arrived, no one answered the door. "The house was locked, our guys actually had to make entry through an upstairs window," Caron said. Officers found White dead, along with Sebastian. Both had a single gunshot to the head.

Neighbors are trying to make sense of such a violent crime, which hits close to home. Judith Warren has lived across the street from the duplex for four years. She says even though she didn't know the couple all that well, she didn't expect such a violent crime to happen so close to home.

"That's scary that it's so close, but you just never know what people are going to do, I suppose," she said.

Darren Hardy lives a few houses away from the duplex. He watched as police went in and out of the house. "I just saw a lot of police cars parked along the street. It was really quiet and dark, and no one had their lights on or anything, so I thought it was kind of odd," he said.

Sebastian was being prosecuted for domestic violence and, according to police, had bragged he had a weapon and concealed carry permit.

Officers had no evidence, however, of him ever using the weapon or making threats with it.

Detectives will wait for the report from the medical examiner before closing the investigation. Right now, all evidence right now points to a murder-suicide.

OK, not taking away from the gravity of it- but who proofed that story- November 2009?

I would think the problem is people are not driving any safer, just slowing down at the proper points and making it appear as if they are that is the problem.

Well, I don't live there any more, but I grew up where the Station Fire has been burning back in Los Angeles.

This site has some crazy photos: http://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/local ... 84317.html

Of the 30 cabins on government land in my community, nine are left. I lived in three different ones and all of those are gone. There were also homes on private land, I think about 15 or so, only two remain. Then there were two more such communities downstream which have had similar devistation. One picture I saw showed rivers of metal that had been formed when the fire melted something.

Two firefighters have died, and the fire has been determined to be arson, so if they find the one(s) who started the fire, there will be homicide charges filed.

As of 7:30 this evening, 144,000 acres have burnt.
