... Is there anyone else as opposed to armed forces as I am. To work even for them behind the lines , off the front, is to aid the destruction or looming threat to destroy ones fellow man. +

Am I reading it right, are they talking about conscription?

Talk about looking backwards.

That's what it looked like to me. Unless I read it wrong as well.
I remember watching in amazement as Geddy sang, played bass, and played the keyboards with his feet. I thought, "Who is this guy???"

And I thopught the British Labour Government was a bunch of half-baked, intellectually stunted, moronic, ... (add what ever adjectives you wish).

Yes, conscription. And the last one only conscripted men, this one would include women. The last one gave you an out if you were in school, this one cuts that back.

Just thought some might like to know.

There is not nearly enough popular support for the invasion of Iraq. If they try to institute a draft now, there'll be a backlash to make the 60's look like a High Society garden party.

If you can't fight a battle with those willing to support it, you are a fool to start it to begin, once the line is crossed between forcing people to fight, those taking people from their homes and possibly lives are no better than the "threats" they oppose.

An armed force of volunteers who believe in what they're doing is much more powerful than an armed force filled with those who are compelled to be there by their government. That was why on our initial invasion of Iraq things went as smoothly as they did... because Saddam's forces weren't willing to fight for him.

This bill was introduced by the good old (and I do mean old) southern boy, Ernest Hollings ("Too much Consuuuumin' goin' on out there!") and has no cosponsors. This is a bitter old disempowered democrat's attempt at making Bush look bad with an "If we didn' have a president leadin' us inta all these wars we wouldn't NEED a draft... but here we is!" line of logic.

If this thing ever does make it to a vote, every senator who wants to be re-elected will have to vote against it. This bill has NO popular support and they know it.
