Bitter Songs

Post by RushGroupie29 »

Well, I've recently been dumped by my "significant other"- for someone who's a very good friend of mine, no less. :x So I was wondering if anybody knew some really good "F*ck you" songs that could maybe make me feel better. Uhh... I don't know what else to say, but some nice bitter breakup songs would be reatly appreciated. :-D

I'm sorry it happened Groupie. This may not be a love song but it trashes the fucker pretty good. It's by a band named Threshold and it is called Narcissus.

caught in the headlamp glare of your own blinding vanity
mesmerised by the stare of your shallow personality
gorging the junk food of flattery you drag your fat ego around
everyone floored by the battering you give to whoever's around

trapped in the personal hell of your own desperate addiction
frightened that others can tell of your expensive affliction
with your happiness based on a chemical you wax lyrical with words so profound
when your indulgence reaches that level it's safest not to be around

oh narcissus you petulant child admiring yourself in the curve of my eyes
oh narcissus you angel beguiled unsated by self you do nothing but die

wrapped in the transparent lies of your desperate situation
you expound on imaginary ties expecting us to believe them
in the absence of concrete commitment
you've all the attention that money can buy
not caring that those who still love you are callously thrown to one side

oh narcissus you petulant child admiring yourself in the curve of my eyes
oh narcissus you angel beguiled unsated by self you do nothing but die
oh narcissus you treacherous child admiring yourself in the curve of my eyes
oh narcissus you angel beguiled unsated by self you do nothing but die

hey you dog man whelp of a litter of scavengers
bolting the flesh of your victims with a ravenous greed
you work with your siblings up to a point
'til your ego is sated or your wallet fulfilled
jealously guarding the bones of your kill
with a malice that's born out of fear

running with the pack your defence is to attack
but i detect you in your stealth because you've rolled in your own filth
you hope to gain my trust with your cowardly disguise
whispering such confidences my revulsion to a-wreck

you call yourself a friend you call yourself a friend
and when i turn my back your fangs will feel my neck
what is your domain but a barn where your runts roll in the reek
you would seek to steel my freedom and have branded me a freak
i want nothing of your snarling mongrel strain your smarmy doggerel lies
and if these words have singed your fur consider yourself a whipped cur

gorging the junk food of flattery you haul your fat ego around
everyone floored by the battering you give to whoever's around

oh narcissus you petulant child admiring yourself in the curve of my eyes
oh narcissus you angel beguiled unsated by self you do nothing but die
I love my Welshman.

I've been there groupie, many moons ago, the memory still causes discomfort. Simply trust to karma and those in need will reap their just rewards.

The Start of Something Beautiful
Album : Deadwing
Artist : Porcupine Tree

Always in my thoughts you are
Always in my dreams you are
I got your voice on tape
I got your spirit in a photograph
Always out of reach you are

Cold inside my arms you are
Simple like a child you are
I remember when you took my hand and led me through the rain
Down inside my soul you are

The more I show the way
I feel the less I find you give a damn
The more I get to know the less find that I understand
Innocent, the time we spent, forgot to mention we're good friends
You thought it was the start of something beautiful?
Well think again.

Mother lost her looks for you
Father never wanted you
I trust to love and then I find you never really felt the same
There's something in your heart so cruel
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Almost two years ago I endured the near-collapse of my marriage and of course sought solace in music (and my BT mates). You want 'bitter' songs? I'l offer another, try downloading it via some p2p application, if not for the lyrics then the music.

Keane 'Bedshaped'

Many's the time I ran with you down
The rainy roads of our old town
Many the lives we lived in each day
And buried altogether
Don't laugh at me
Don't look away

You'll follow me back
With the sun in your eyes
And on your own
Bedshaped and legs of stone
You'll knock on my door
And up we'll go
In white light
I don't think so
But what do I know?
What do I know?
I know

I know you think I'm holding you down
And I've fallen by the wayside now
And I don't understand the same things as you
But I do

Don't laugh at me
Don't look away

You'll follow me back
With the sun in your eyes
And on your own
Bedshaped and legs of stone
You'll knock on my door
And up we'll go
In white light
I don't think so
But what do I know?
What do I know?
I know

And up we'll go
In white light
I don't think so
But what do I know?
What do I know?
I know

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A Perfect Circle 3 Libras

Threw you the obvious
And you flew with it on your back
A name in your recollection
Down among a million, say:
Difficult enough to feel a little bit
Disappointed, passed over.
When I've looked right through,
To see you naked and oblivious
and you don't see me

Well I threw you the obvious,
Just to see if there's more behind the
Eyes of a fallen angel,
Eyes of a tragedy.

Here I am expecting just a little bit
Too much from the wounded
But I see,
See through it all,
See through,
And see you.

So I threw you the obvious
Do you see what occurs behind the
Eyes of a fallen angel
Eyes of a tragedy

Well, oh well..

Apparently nothing.
Apparently nothing at all.

You don't see me
You don't
You don't
You don't see me at all

Ani DiFranco
"Untouchable Face"

think i'm going for a walk now
i feel a little unsteady
i don't want nobody to follow me
'cept maybe you
i could make you happy you know
if you weren't already
i could do a lot of things
and i do

tell you the truth i prefer
the worst of you
too bad you had to have a better half
she's not really my type
but i think you two are forever
and i hate to say it but
you're perfect together

so fuck you
and your untouchable face
and fuck you
for existing in the first place
and who am i
that i should be vying for your touch
and who am i
i bet you can't even tell me that much

two-thirty in the morning
and my gas tank will be empty soon
neon sign on the horizon
rubbing elbows with the moon
a safe haven of sleepless
where the deep fryer's always on
radio is counting down
the top 20 country songs
and out on the porch the fly strip is
waving like a flag in the wind
y'know, i don't look forward
to seeing you again soon
you'll look like a photograph of yourself
taken from far far away
and i won't know what to do
and i won't know what to say

except fuck you...

i see you and i'm so perplexed
what was i thinking
what will i think of next
where can i hide
in the back room there's a lamp
that hangs over the pool table
and when the fan is on it swings
gently side to side
there's a changing constellation
of balls as we are playing
i see orion and say nothing
the only thing i can think of saying

is fuck you...

Thanks guys, those are all great songs. I feel much better after listening to them. :-) I guess it just takes time to get over these things- and you're right Ogg, karma will come back to bite her in the butt someday. :-D

Oh, and I'm very glad your marriage is a-okay now.

Tears of Audrey
by Kevin Gilbert

Audrey's donning her black dress again
A dress she always plans to wear
"It's over" - she says it softly over
"I'm all alone"

She does not listen to the eulogies
She gives no credence to her pain
"From now on I'm through with love
From now on I will not love again."

There are no hearts to mend
There are no prayers to send
There's no reason why
There's no need to cry for the sadness of it all
There are no dreams come true and there is no care
Let the world beware should the tears of Audrey fall

She carefully polishes her heart of stone
She deftly sculpts her feet of clay
"I'm no one and none can touch me
No one . . . it's easier this way."

Is it so unfair?
Let the world beware
Should the tears of Audrey fall

So now she's shutting all her windows tight
And now she's closing all her blinds
"How can I believe in light
When darkness is all around?"

-------------------

Famous Blue Raincoat
by Leonard Cohen

It's four in the morning, the end of December
I'm writing you now just to see if you're better
New york is cold, but I like where Im living
Theres music on Clinton Street all through the evening.

I hear that you're building your little house deep in the desert
You're living for nothing now, I hope you're keeping some kind of record.

Yes, and Jane came by with a lock of your hair
She said that you gave it to her
That night that you planned to go clear
Did you ever go clear?

Ah, the last time we saw you you looked so much older
Your famous blue raincoat was torn at the shoulder
You'd been to the station to meet every train
And you came home without Lili Marlene

And you treated my woman to a flake of your life
And when she came back she was nobody's wife.

Well I see you there with the rose in your teeth
One more thin Gypsy thief
Well I see Janes awake --

She sends her regards.
And what can I tell you my brother, my killer
What can I possibly say?
I guess that I miss you, I guess I forgive you
I'm glad you stood in my way.

If you ever come by here, for Jane or for me
Your enemy is sleeping, and his woman is free.

Yes, and thanks, for the trouble you took from her eyes
I thought it was there for good so I never tried.

And Jane came by with a lock of your hair
She said that you gave it to her
That night that you planned to go clear

-- sincerely, L. Cohen

Incubus
by Fish

When footlights dim in reverence to prescient passion forewarned
My audience leaves the stage, floating ahead perfumed shift
Within the stammering silence, the face that launched a thousand frames
Betrayed by a porcelain tear, a stained career

You played this scene before, you played this scene before
I the mote in your eye, I the mote in your eye
A misplaced reaction

The darkroom unleashes imagination in pornographic images
In which you will always be the star, always be the star, untouchable
Unapproachable, constant in the darkness
Nursing an erection, a misplaced reaction
With no flower to place before this gravestone
And the walls become enticingly newspaper thin
But that would be developing the negative view
And you have to be exposed in voyeuristic colour
The public act, let you model your shame
On the mannequin catwalk, catwalk
Let the cats walk, and the cat walks

I've played this scene before, I've played this scene before
I the mote in your eye, I the mote in your eye
A misplaced reaction, satisfaction

You can't brush me under the carpet, you can't hide me under the stairs
The custodian of your private fears, your leading actor of yesteryear
Who as you crawled out of the alleys of obscurity
Sentenced to rejection in the morass of anonymity
You who I directed with lovers will, you who I let hypnotise the lens
You who I let bathe in the spotlights glare
You who wiped me from your memory like a greasepaint mask
Just like a greasepaint mask

But now I'm the snake in the grass, the ghost of film reels past
I'm the producer of your nightmare and the performance has just begun
It's just begun

Your perimeter of courtiers jerk like celluloid puppets
As you stutter paralysed with rabbits eyes, searing the shadows
Flooding the wings, to pluck elusive salvation from the understudy's lips
Retrieve the soliloquy, maintain the obituary
My cue line in the last act and you wait in silent solitude
Waiting for the prompt, waiting for the prompt

You've played this scene before
Strength and beauty destined to decay
so cut the rose in full bloom.
Till the fearless come and the act is done
A love like blood
a love like blood

It's Not Love - Dokken

Told you I had to leave,
I had my reasons
I said that it hurt to stay,
the way that I'm feelin'

refrain:

It's not love
That left you standin'
It's not love
That left you cold
It's not love
Misunderstandin'
Only a mistake
There's nothing left to take

Why, baby, why did you make me let you go
And leave you so lonely
Why, baby, why did you have to hold on
You know it's not love anymore

Gave you your last chance,
but you didn't believe me
You can't keep me satisfied,
the way that you treat me

refrain

Why, baby, why did you make me let you go
And leave you so lonely
Why, baby, why, stop playing with my heart
I told you

It's not love
Telling you to be this way
It's not love
Sayin' you can never change
It's not love
When I told you
Is he putting you down
Down, down, down....OWWWWW!

:headbang:
Don't start none...won't be none.

Wow, that's so odd that this thread got revived not too long ago, because I just heard today that they broke up...Sorry, that's not really that relevant anymore, I guess. Just kind of odd.

When my heart was jerked like that, I liked to listen to Hey Joe mby Jimi The Man Hendrix, and Hot Dog by Zep.

I know it's been a year now, perhaps the Zep tune can give you a giggle.

Rush "We Hold On"

How many times
Do we tire of all the little battles
Threaten to call it quits
Tempted to cut and run

How many times
Do we weather out the stormy evenings
Long to slam the front door
Drive away into the setting sun

Keep going until dawn
How many times must another line be drawn
We could be down and gone
But we hold on

How many times
Do we chaff against the repetition
Straining against a fate
Measured out in coffee breaks

How many times
Do we swallow our ambition
Long to give up the same old way
Find another road to take

Keep holding on so long
'Cause there's a chance
that we might not be so wrong
We could be down and gone
But we hold on

How many times
Do we wonder if it's even worth it
There's got to be some other way
To get me through the day

But we hold on
