the method of murder is not important, you can as easily kill someone with a bat or sharp/blunt instrument. Making guns more restrictive won't stop those with the intent of murder from acquiring them either way also. Extremely stupid levels of gun control have done nothing to help Canada, only increased illegal gun related crimes.

Is all this because your government took your gun rights and guns a long time ago.............no guns, no gun crimes?

And yes, I am only wondering.

I realise that you dont need a gun to kill....but to make them so accessible surely cant help...

there were 594 homocides in canada in 2007, pairing that with our around 30 mil population and UK's 60 mil, that is about dead even.

Again, I think that falls on our Forefathers for the Constitution written. We could have been the same here, they chose a different path, and now for some odd reason, the fevorish gun owners call it "God given right."

I don't know.

Most recent stats I can find are 05. 17% or 792 (135) fire arm related deaths are homocide (the rest is mostly suicide) but of those 135 fire arm related deaths there are 4 other assault crimes using guns, so 1 in 5 fire arm related assaults cause death. so 675 fire arm crimes, and the second it is carried outside, or even a handgun it is not legal in canada, almost safe to say all were illegal firearms. (sawed off shotguns, automatics are also illegal in canada)

Edit: sorry that was 2003, 2005 33% of homocide was gun related (the total was 663, but its only the %'age that matters)

EDIT 2 : good stat canada article hear on the matter for those interested. http://www.statcan.gc.ca/pub/85-002-x/8 ... 06-eng.pdf

Check out canadas drug crime if you dare, or rape, we are pretty high for that. If more women had pistols there would probably be less rape :P

Hey, Americans kill .03 more people per thousand than the UK...

Not bad - when we're the most heavily armed citizenry in the world, and it
doesn't even take personal or property defense into account.

Got any data on stabbings? Bludgeonings? Pummelings?

I think the UK gun murder stats are a little skewed (being that it's difficult
to even own a gun legally in the UK, so that only leaves criminal
activity, and once again, doesn't take personal or property defense into
account).

How about some US vs. UK stabbing and blunt-force trauma stats...

Just keepin' it real.

More Guns, Less "Gun Control," and Less Crime

- There are more guns (at least 250 million) and gun owners (70-80 million)
in the U.S. than ever.

- During the last decade, "gun control" has been significantly reduced.

- 40 U.S. states have Right-to-Carry laws. The U.S. and 44 state
constitutions, and the laws of every state recognize the right to use guns
for defensive purposes. The 40 RTC states have 26% lower violent crime
rates, on average.

- Carry permit holders are more law-abiding than the rest of the public.

- Guns are used for self-defense three to five times more often than for crimes.

- National crime surveys show that people who use guns to defend against
violent crime are less likely to be injured than all other victims.

- A Department of Justice study found that 40% of felons do not
commit crimes if they believe victims are armed.

- The federal waiting period on handguns ended in 1998, in favor of the
NRA-supported National InstantCheck.

- Congress refused to renew the Clinton Gun Ban, allowing it to expire in
2004.

- All states have hunter protection laws, 47 have range protection laws, and
47 prohibit cities from imposing gun laws more restrictive than state law.

- Congress and 33 states have prohibited frivolous lawsuits against the
firearm industry.

- Since 1991, U.S. total violent crime is down 38%, murder is down
42%, and robbery is down 45%.

- 2.5 million guns were used DEFENSIVELY in the U.S. last year.

- "Castle" or "Make My Day" Doctrine ? 33 states have laws protecting the
right of self-defense, by removing a person's "duty to retreat" from
anyplace he or she has a legal right to be.

Of these, 20 prohibit criminals and their families from suing people who
injure or kill criminals in self-defense.
Don't start none...won't be none.
