Styx

Post by CygnusX1 »

Just watched the live performance of "Grand Illusion/Pieces of Eight" on
Palladia Channel and it was superb.

My first concert was Kiss, Mott and Styx and I never forgot it.

Good to see JY, Chuckie and Tommy Shaw playing it like they did
waaaaay back when. The new guys ain't bad either.

I loved to blast GI and PO8 in the car or on the turntable back then.

Check it out...it's a small venue and the performance is OUTSTANDING.

WHO???? Just kidding. :-D

I have to say, Lawrence Gowan has DeYoung's vocals DOWN. He's a
DAMN good keyboard player too. JY has some AWESOME Strats he
shows off and WAILS on. The cameo performance on bass from Chuckie
Panozzo (he makes guest appearances but is not full time)was
heartwarming to see too.

Bottom line: If you close your eyes and listen....it's the ORIGINAL Styx.

Rock on, "SUPERSTAR" :)

I saw them in 07 with Gowan, and Sigs is right. Who? That was an absolutely great show! He sounds just like De Young and he is an awesome keyboard player.

Saw that piece you were talking about on VH 1.. It was every bit as good as you said Sigs!
Happy 2015!

I saw them years ago when John was still alive and Tommy was with the Damn Yankees. I don't remember who was in Shaws place, but he was pretty dang good also.

Sigette had tix for us to see them in '81 and I was on my way home from
Gitmo....my last day on active duty...my hop got delayed and I missed
her by 2 hours. She went with our best friend and I got all the details
when she got back. Still sorry I missed that show, but just being HOME
was awesome enough.... :-D

First off....Hi Schu! Long time no see! ((((Schu))))

Here's about 2 hours of Gowan singing better than DeYoung

(in fact, it's the Styx concert this thread is based on)

Someone want to heat my crow up please? I watched the Behind the Music Remastered about Styx, and right afterward the VH1 version of the concert is on (which I can currently hear all through the house because I have all the TVs tuned to it) and wow...you are so right about Lawrence Gowan.

I am seriously thinking about trying to score tickets if Styx tours again going by what I am hearing right now.
