Did you guys see the rag called Blender? The November issue had an article called "The 40 Worst Lyricists in Rock" and they listed Neil as number 2!

Here is the blurb:

02 Neil Peart
An ace on the rototoms, a train wreck on the typewriter

Drummers are good at many things: exploding, drowning in their own
vomit, drumming. But the Rush skinsman proved they should never write
lyrics- or read books. Peart opuses like "Cygnus X-1" are richly awful
tapestries of fantasy and science fiction, steeped in an eighth-grade
understanding of Western philosophy. 2112, Rush's 1976 concept album
based on individualist thinker Ayn Rand's novella Anthem, remains an awe-
inspiring low point in the sordid relationship between rock and ideas.

Worst lyric:
"I stand atop a spiral stair/ An oracle confronts me there/ He leads me on
light years away/ Through astral nights, galactic days" ("Oracle: The Dream")

All I have to say is that I am glad my subscription was free, they will never get my money.

Oh that just pisses me off BIG time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would like confront this A-hole. He obviously has about a million issues to deal with & compensate for. Has many many problems & needs to to put the best of the best down to make himself feel better.

Pardon the pun but words escape me on this one.

Actually, a lot of people do that to p*ss off fans 'cause they KNOW such a claim is rediculous. Rush fans are notoriously rabid and claims like that up the "hits" to his site. Who knows?

Isn't that obvious?

Folks shouldn't take these things so seriously. It's all just a laugh.
And lets be honest here: Neil has written some dreadful lyrics along with all the good stuff.

Ok sure, but you didn't just type that with any other thought in mind but to say what you said.

Them assclowns wrote their drivvle to insite an emotional response or worse.

I see a big difference. And yeah, there have been a few songs Neil has penned that didn't float my boat. :-)

But I ain't goin there brother. :-D

Prof commented about that on neilpeart.net

He hurled a good volley back:

Taken from http://www.neilpeart.net/news/november_07.html

Quote:

"Later that day, at the venue, I was checking my e-mails, and saw
a story on AOL titled ?Worst Rock Lyricists.? Curious, I opened it and
read that some ?hip? magazine (Read: Blender) had declared Sting the
all-time worst rock lyricist, which seemed kind of dumb.

Then, in second place, I was startled to see?gulp?my name. Ouch!

I felt my face burning with shame and anger, to be so publicly declared
?the second worst rock lyricist of all time,? and to read
my work described in words like ?an awful mix of science and
fantasy.? Though obviously written about songs from thirty years
ago, and by someone whose choice for ?great? lyricists would
probably be, oh, Joey Ramone or Morrissey, it still stung."
