We discovered how cool they were when I taped a concert off of the satellite last summer. Within weeks of that it was announced that they were coming to our very own small town in concert. That show was a wonderful night. My daughter is now their biggest fan and has all but one of their albums. We also have DVD's of Direct From Brooklyn and Here Come The ABC's, as well as the Gigantic documentary.

TMBG has placed #84 in Paste Magazine's list of the 100 Greatest Living Songwriters. Here's what they had to say:

"Spinal Tap frontman David St. Hubbins so wisely characterizes the artistic balancing act by saying, 'It's such a fine line between stupid and clevar.' They Might Be Giants have made a career out of obliterating that line. Writing bizarre tales of narcotic statues, birdhouse-filled souls and toothy shoehorns, it would appear that songwriting partners John Linnell and John Flansburgh are the Lennon/McCartney of an alternate universe. Their gift is in making inescapably catchy melodies, endearingly nerdy vocals and wildly entertaining arrangements play the straight man to their nontraditional subject matter."

Bump!

Two new albums coming out this year! One is being produced by the Dust Brothers. This could prove interesting.

The Dust Brothers are the Los Angeles-based producers "E.Z. Mike" (Michael Simpson) and "King Gizmo" (John King), famous for their sample-based music in the 1980s, and specifically for their work on the groundbreaking albums Paul's Boutique by the Beastie Boys and Odelay by Beck. More recently, they again collaborated with Beck on the album Guero, and worked with Tenacious D on their self-titled debut. They also helped Linkin Park on their debut album Hybrid Theory.

They produced Tone Loc's album, Loc'ed After Dark and Young MC's first album. In 1997 they produced the hit "MMMBop" for Hanson's first major label album Middle of Nowhere.

In 1998, the duo was approached by director David Fincher to assemble the acclaimed score for the film Fight Club, most notably "This is Your Life", a song featuring lines from Fight Club [1], including the "You are not the contents of your wallet" speech by Tyler Durden.

The Dust Brothers also produced a track with Korn called "Kick the P.A." for the Spawn soundtrack in 1997.

The Dust Brothers also remixed the Styles Of Beyond track "Winnetka Exit", which made its way onto a Styles Of Beyond promotional CD Spies Like Us / Winnetka Exit.

They are currently collaborating with They Might Be Giants on their new album, due out in 2007.
