Jeff Buckley

Post by Ogg »

It would take something pretty special to detract my attention away from my (then) Porcupine Tree listening orgy and the Jeff Buckley debut album 'Grace' did just that.
My good chum and guitarist Dan passed on the album and I was immediately transfixed by his four octave vocal range and genius song writing. His cover of Leonard Cohen's 'Hallelujah' (from Shrek :-) ) is superior to the original imho.
What makes the album even more poignant is the sad fact that he died in a tragic drowning accident at the young age of thirty one.

Official stuff: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeff_Buckley

"Known for his vocal range of 4 octaves and tone quality, Buckley was considered by critics to be one of the most promising artists of his generation after the release of his 1994 debut album Grace. However, at the height of his popularity, Buckley drowned during an evening swim in 1997. His work and style continue to be highly regarded by critics and fellow musicians..."

Jeff Buckley 'Grace'

There's the moon asking to stay
Long enough for the clouds to fly me away
Though it's my time coming, I'm not afraid, afraid to die
My fading voice sings of love,
But she cries to the clicking of time,
Of time

Wait in the fire...

And she weeps on my arm
Walking to the bright lights in sorrow
Oh drink a bit of wine we both might go tomorrow,oh my love
And the rain is falling and I believe
My time has come
It reminds me of the pain I might leave
Leave behind

Wait in the fire...

And I feel them drown my name
So easy to know and forget with this kiss
But I'm not afraid to go but it goes so slow

Wait in the fire...

Buy it, download it even but this you must hear.
