I love this song...but isn't this a solo George Harrison song?
Nope. George wrote it, but it's a Beatles song. On the White Album, I believe.

Their part in Sgt. Pepper's (the movie) is the reason that Aerosmith covered this song. They are the Future Villain Band

Hahaha...yeah they did a version of Helter Skelter, and yes it is a Beatles tune. Actually, I like their cover of it. Pat Benitar also covered this song and it was very cool to hear it in a woman's voice. But, then again, Pat Benitar could make most anything sound good.

Lifesonite and Advocate thanks for the 411 on "Gentley Weeps." Like the song...had the White Album on cassette for a little while, then lost it and haven't replaced it yet...I'd forgotten that song was on there.

By the way, I voted for "Eleanor Rigby" because that's what I think right now...but I think it comes down to either that song or "Day in the Life."

Interestingly enough, even though it was written by George Harrison, the lead guitar is played by Eric Clapton.

I voted for other. I too love the whole Golden Slumbers thing on Abbey Road. Strawberry Fields is also mighty nice.

Paperback Writer

A kickass song with a driving rock rhythm (a rarity for The Beatles!)

And the funny thing about Harrison/Clapton is, as I recall, Clapton had an affair with Harrison's wife. Or something like that.

Yeah... a brief affair, then eventually she left George and married Eric. Inspite of that, George and Eric remianed very dear friends up until George's death.

Did she really? I thought she stayed married to George. How about that. Interesting thing is, Clapton was also childhood friends with Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page... tight knit, those british musicians!

Robert Fripp used to hang out with Greg Lake when they were kids, too
I remember watching in amazement as Geddy sang, played bass, and played the keyboards with his feet. I thought, "Who is this guy???"

Clapton, Beck and Page were actually the guitarists through out the span od the yardbirds. When the Yardbirds split up, Page formed the New Yardbirds whcih became Led Zeppelin.

Incidentally, I voted for Elanor Rigby. I've always loved it.

Right. Claption/Beck/Page, in that order; Clapton left to join John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, then formed cream, then formed Derek and the Dominoes with Duane Allman, then went solo. Jeff Beck went Solo, and Page did some studio work for Ray Davies and the Kinks, and then met up with Plant/Bonham and formed Zeppelin. After they broke up Page/Plant got together in '86 and did their "Unledded" Tour. I don't think Zeppelin was ever called the "New Yardbirds" though. Just a little History lesson :-D

On a different note, Elanor Rigby was a B-side with Paperback Writer... So I was fond of that one too...

By the way, I was wondering if anyone has seen "Concert for George"

I think it was Bonham who thought the name "New Yardbirds" would go over like a lead zeppelin, hence the name. After his death, Led Zeppelin basically disbanded. For the "Unledded" tour, they were billed as "Page and Plant" - John Paul Jones wasn't "invited" to join, and was pretty p.o.'ed about it.

As for the poll, I picked "Other" for "Let It Be"

Actually, it was Keith Moon who made that comment according to popular myth.

Oh, we're going by rumor now, are we?

By the way, doesn't John Paul Jones play in a folk band? I could've sworn I saw him on the Cone-zone about a week ago.
