I found myself studying JY shredding on those strats of his. Those coil
taps make 'em shriek! Now I see how he got the sick lead tone and
harmonic feedback on The Grand Illusion...

Funny you mention tone - I picked up on the difference in the bass tone between Chuck Panozzo and Ricky Phillips when Chuck came out to play.

Did you notice that Ricky was playing 5 and 6 string basses when they were both out there?

That added some cool flavor to the bottom.

How many bands do you hear with multiple bass players? :?

I did notice that - by doing that you can split the frequencies up and not sound like mud. Chuck was playing a Fender and it looked like Ricky had a Rick at one point - those would complement each other nicely tone-wise.

Ned's Atomic Dustbin had two bass players and no guitarist. One of the many, many bands that I guy I work with had three bass players, a drummer and no guitarist....

That's about it.

Is it the remastered disc version? The vinyl record is awesome.

I still kick on it too. Some songs just never get old.

I watched Styx open for Mott the Hoople and Kiss (headliner) back in 19-and-75.

Yes, they had electricity back then... :-)

It's the verison on iTunes - only complaint is the overall volume is a bit soft on all the tracks.
