Are you satisfied...

Post by ElfDude »

... with your life?

From today's New York Post:
August 15, 2007 -- A surprising 94 percent of Americans say they are satisfied with their lives - although far fewer in New York and other Eastern states think they're better off than they were five years ago, according to a new survey.

The Harris Poll of more than 1,000 people reported the overall "satisfaction" level, defined as people who said they were either very or somewhat satisfied with their lot, was up 4 percentage points, from 90 percent two years ago.

But only 42 percent of people in the Eastern U.S. said things had improved since 2002. By contrast, 60 percent of Southerners and 62 percent of Westerners said their lives had improved.

Aw, no one is answering. Okay, I will first.

Had I been polled, I must admit that I would have told them that I was indeed "either very or somewhat satisfied" with my life.

Better off than 5 years ago? Heck, yes!!!

Just the opposite with me. I am miserable at work and at home. I'm better off financially than I was 5 years ago, but that's about it. People who have known me for awhile say that I seem different now, less happy, restless, drink and smoke too much, etc. It all stems from the pressure I'm under at work and the fact that I have very little outlet/vent for these frustrations.

Still, it makes me a funnier person, as I must use humor to cover the sadness. I'm gettin' good at it :-D

Don't feel bad for me. I am in the process of changing the things that are keeping me down, and when I do my "old self" will return.

I am glad I didn't get "polled", though :D

Too late, man. Don't like hearing that someone I care about is unhappy.

However, I've heard a little about your plan for change and I'm quite excited for you.

Hey, wait, you're in an eastern state, aren't you? ;)

75% Satisfied with my life. Perhaps I'll use the rest of it
to attempt to reach 100%. Gearing up for the fight.

Hey BBO, feel free to let some of your sadness go.

I think the rest of the board will agree:
Vent on us, while you're in the process of changing the
things that keep you down.

I too, cover sadness with humor, but we must learn
not to bear all the sadness by ourselves. Let it out.
Just the act of unburdening your mind to willing
listeners will help and lighten the load.

My ears are open.

Ah, see...it's people like you two and all my other By-tor sisters and brothers that make the rough patches less...rough.

For once I can't think of a funny thing to say :-)

Thanks.

Elf...don't quit your day job.

BBO, I hear ya. Last four years of my life have been rather crazy. It's good to hear you're being honest with yourself...that whole "just keep smiling" hogwash is stupid. Dealing with life's manure begins with honesty...from there you can start identifying the good things in life, which makes it easier to deal with the crap.

My body and spirit being subject to many pleasures... yet I am not able to savour them as the heaviness of countless heart-griefs has made the wine of my life bitter. Life is full of pleasure and pain being like twins, for there is never the one without the other. My pleasure has become like water under a hot burning sun, it evaporates swiftly.
