I dropped him off with his recruiter yesterday. I wasn't looking at my boy . . . I was looking at a young man who stood with his chest out and head held high. Who was this guy? He was a soldier already in the making.

Got a Facebook message the day he arrived in Georgia. He was being put up in a hotel and said it was to be his last day with internet for three months. He changed his contract and is trying for Airborne Rangers. That means Jump School after Basic and then Ranger School.

I got a call today from Bear! 
He is still "processing" and it looks like he will start basic Friday. He has a bunch of training coming up to make Airborne Ranger and should not finish until after the holidays but should be able to come home for a holiday visit. He has made some friends and is even with two guys who flew out from Seattle with him. The weather is not bothering him. Once he gets to basic he will be mailing a package home with info about graduation and places for folks to stay, that kind of stuff. I did pretty well, only choking up once when I was telling him how proud I am of him. I also told him people have been giving me messages of thanks to him and of their pride in him for doing this and that I will write them down and send them in a letter once I get his address. He liked hearing that; it encouraged him.
