Just as it is offensive to be told that because you do believe you are an idiot, or clueless, or not looking at the facts, or not facing reality, too weak to live without a crutch, et cetera.

No one in this thread has said that to me that I recall but all those things have been said to me.
t, you are right. I have heard those things as well and it just goes to show a persons lack of respect for their fellow humans. I find it exciting and wondrous that we are all different and I enjoy exchanging ideas with those that have different views and beliefs. When it gets rude or accusative, intolerant, etc. like you describe is when I begin to question mental capacity and humanity in a person.

I would also never say anything like that...unless of course they started throwing shit at me first ;)

as I said everyone has their own beliefs...none of us are wrong in our beliefs...I'm certainly not wrong in mine and I accept that you are not wrong in yours :-)

although I did watch Louis Theroux (sp) with 'America's most hated family'...and sorry but they were really crazy...

Oh...... :x

Yeah, great way to go, guys! (NOT!) The two greatest commandments are love G-d and love your fellow man. And this behavior shows love to our fellow man how? Protesting at funerals makes the relatives feel oh so loved and supported by their fellow man? Gimme a break.

A 6-year-old girl was sitting in a classroom....

The teacher was going to explain evolution to the children.

The teacher asked a little boy:

Tommy - do you see the tree outside?

TOMMY: Yes.

TEACHER: Tommy, do you see the grass outside?

TOMMY: Yes.

TEACHER: Go outside and look up - and see if you can see the sky!

TOMMY: Okay. (He returned a few minutes later) Yes, I saw the sky.

TEACHER: Did you see God up there?

TOMMY: No.

TEACHER: That's my point. We can't see God because he isn't there.
Possibly - because he just doesn't exist.

The little girl had enough, so she spoke up, and wanted to ask the boy
some questions.

The teacher agreed, and the little girl asked the boy:

Tommy, do you see the tree outside?

TOMMY: Yes.

LITTLE GIRL: Tommy do you see the grass outside?

TOMMY: Yessssss!

LITTLE GIRL: Did you see the sky?

TOMMY: Yessssss!

LITTLE GIRL: Tommy, do you see the teacher?

TOMMY: Yes.

LITTLE GIRL: Do you see her brain?

TOMMY: No!

LITTLE GIRL: Then - according to what we were taught today in school -
she "possibly" may not have one.

hmmm.
Don't start none...won't be none.

Please don't take what I said the wrong way. No-one here actually gets preachy-in-the-face, it's just a little jolting to be reading along and suddenly have a thread turn into a religious debate or philosophy session. I guess I could just avoid the threads, but like politics, it gets posted in the most unlikely of subjects.

Anywho, we're all good friends here, regardless. I'm glad we had this little discussion. :-)

BBO, I am sorry if it bothers you when religion and philosophy come up. But I can't put my faith or my worldview in a box. They make me who I am as your beliefs regarding faith and your worldview make you who you are.

I know and it doesn't really bother me, per say. Just some certain things about it that damn others takes me by surprise. Plus I can't claim to be smart enough to know if it is true or not. I guess I'm a late bloomer, faith-wise.
But yeah, the whole damny thing is weird.

P.S., my actual name is Paul, but John is nice too. So is George and Ringo for that matter. :-)
