Fact check time. Any idea what Exxon-Mobil's profit margin is on a gallon of gasoline? It's a mere 9 cents. Out of the three bucks I spend on a gallon, Exxon-Mobile profits 9 whole cents. And they did all that work to get it to where I can conveniently put it in my tank. And they provide thousands of American jobs to boot. I just don't see the greed or villainy in that.

On the other hand, the government did nothing to get the gas to you and me, but they take something like 50 cents or more from each gallon purchased. THAT's where the greed lies. Not in private enterprise.
Then why the heck do we pay taxes ... that's not crude coming out of them thar hills, that's blood brother, blood!

Washington Post in 2005:
Rayola Dougher, manager of energy market issues for the American Petroleum Institute, a District-based industry group, said oil companies' earnings per dollar of sales are below, or in line with, those of other industries. She said Irving, Tex.-based Exxon Mobil made about 9.8 cents on every dollar of sales. In comparison, she said, McDonald's Corp. earned 13.8 cents and Coca-Cola Co. earned 21.2 cents on every dollar of sales.
Still... that's nothing for anyone to whine about.

Then please expalin to me how they ended up with $32B in profit in one quarter?

There's nothing fishy about it. The world runs on oil. We consume huge amounts of it daily, not only in transportation but in manufacturing. Tons of products are made in part of an oil-based product.

Consider the Wal-Mart model. They sell stuff at a lower price than anyone else. Consequently, they have narrow profit margins. But also, they sell in much larger quantities than anyone else. Therefore, they rake in a lot of dough. While Exxon doesn't have a huge profit margin, they do tons of sales because we want their product.

It's just supply and demand.

As a side note, profit is not a dirty word. :)
Aren't you the guy who hit me in the eye?

Sounds like someone listens to too much Rush limburger cheese? At any rate is this a tribute to the late Bob Barker ... ruff, ruff? Perhaps it's all well and good for a large metropolitan are such as LA ...but there's always going to be your suboptimal brain chemistry that likes the taste of mail men in shorts> Are we stepping on evolution or are we nothing more than our long ago ancient relatives the clever monkeys replicating happily in banana trees? As it is with the strange weather probably contributing to the bacterial porn and the flu out break, but that's another story for another thread. (I slipped a bit forgive me) I'll have to hem and haw over this snip, snip of mutts for the sake of reducing a possible food source.
I say lets get this back to Dawns topic subject and move the oil/gas thread someplace else that's to good of a topic to share with pets yet that is serious stuff too.

Some cultures I understand eat dogs but not sure which one or ones I'll have to google it. I wouldn't unless I was going to die of starvation. I don't know if I was in such a position, I'd eat another human though?

What is going, what is gone, nothing complete my mind wanders, words concentrate to the page it seems complete but insightful eyes knows other wise, nothing but self-punishing miscalculation in past bread boxes of our hearts ... anyway if I find it later I will surely share, now where were we? Wal-Mart is a JUGGERNAUT.

If they went bankrupt, the U.S. economy would totally collapse.

Oh it's true. It's DAMN true.

Wal-Mart is the "800-pound-gorilla-in-the-room" of U.S. economics.

Hillary helped Wal-Mart crush the union trying to organize there,
(remember-she served on the board) but she's ALL ABOUT union workers...yeah, right.

Bull-shit she is.

She's got 100 million voters to buffalo before November.....

.....but that's another thread.

Rant over.

As you were and carry on. ***salutes***

Ride a bike and stop the blood.

Can't help myself I live in the 60's

Hey Cyg what's up, got your gun lubed for action?

Snows reunion on the way and I am home warm and comfy waiting for tomorrows OT going to chew it up good too. 8)

I found it I was sleeping on it...
the stars echo of long ago without a sound collecting time watching nothing new or silent a song from yesterdays today tomorrow watching truths burning death.
You all probably won't understand no problem yet it's about how things don't really change history seems to stay the same even with a new president it's really not going to change not in the big picture of things we'll all have to face lost, we'll all lose someone, a face of fact lifes a circle and were in the shawdow of our minds hopefully we'll step out into the light someday and things will be differnt but I think a lot of dirt is going to cover a lot of graves before that happens.

So what are we really on, snipping nuts or tying pussy's or is it oil, or by-tor's what evers on your mind sort of thing?
