THE ANT AND THE GRASSHOPPER

This fable is a little different...

Two different versions....With two different morals:

OLD VERSION:

The ant worked hard in the withering heat all summer long,
building his house and laying up supplies for the winter.

The grasshopper thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and dances and
plays the Summer away.

Come winter, the ant is warm and well fed.

The grasshopper has no food or shelter, so he dies out in the cold.

MORAL OF THE STORY: Be responsible for yourself.

MODERN VERSION:

The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building
his house and laying up supplies for the winter.

The grasshopper thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and dances and
plays the summer away.

Come winter, the shivering grasshopper calls a press conference and
demands to know why the ant should be allowed to be warm and well fed
while others are cold and starving.

CBS, NBC, PBS, CNN, and ABC show up to provide pictures of the
shivering grasshopper next to a video of the ant in his comfortable home
with a table filled with food. The world is stunned by the sharp contrast.

How can this be, that in a country of such wealth, this poor grasshopper is
allowed to suffer so?

Kermit the Frog appears on Oprah with the grasshopper and everybody
cries when they sing, "It's Not Easy Being Green."

ACORN stages a demonstration in front of the ant's house where the news
stations film the group singing, "We shall overcome." Rev. Jeremiah
Wright
then has the group kneel down to pray to God for the
grasshopper's sake.

Nancy Pelosi & Harry Reid exclaim in an interview with Larry King that the
ant has gotten rich off the back of the grasshopper, and both call for an
immediate tax hike on the ant to make him pay his fair share.

Finally, the EEOC drafts the Economic Equity & Anti-Grasshopper Act
retroactive to the beginning of the summer.

The ant is fined for failing to hire a proportionate number of green bugs
and, having nothing left to pay his retroactive taxes, his home is
confiscated by the Government Green Czar.

The story ends as we see the grasshopper finishing up the last bits of the
ant?s food while the government house he is in - which just happens to be
the ant's old house - crumbles around him because he doesn't maintain it.

The ant has disappeared in the snow.

The grasshopper is found dead in a drug related incident and the house,
now abandoned, is taken over by a gang of spiders who terrorize the
once-peaceful neighborhood.

MORAL OF THE STORY:

Be very careful how you vote in 2010.
Don't start none...won't be none.

NEW PREAMBLE TO THE U.S. CONSTITUTION

We, the sensible people of the United States, in an attempt to help everyone
get along, restore some semblance of justice, avoid more riots, keep our
nation safe, promote positive behavior and secure the blessings of debt-
free liberty to ourselves and our great-great-great-grandchildren, hereby
try one more time to ordain and establish some common sense
guidelines for the terminally whiny, guilt ridden, delusional, and other
far-left-leaning bedwetters.

We hold these truths to be self evident that a whole lot of people are
confused by the Bill of Rights, and are so dim that they require a
U.S. Bill of NON-Rights.

ARTICLE I: You DO NOT have the right to a new car, big screen TV, or
any other form of wealth.

More power to you if you can legally acquire them, but no one is
guaranteeing anything.

ARTICLE II: You DO NOT have the right to never be offended.

This country is based on freedom, and that means freedom for everyone -
not just you. You may leave the room, turn the channel, express a
different opinion, etc.; but the world is full of idiots, and probably always
will be.

ARTICLE III: You DO NOT have the right to be free from harm.

If you stick a screwdriver in your eye, learn to be more careful; do not
expect the tool manufacturer to make you and all your relatives
independently wealthy.

ARTICLE IV: You DO NOT have the right to free food and housing.

Americans are the most charitable people to be found, and will gladly help
anyone in need, but we are quickly growing weary of subsidizing
generation after generation of professional couch potatoes who achieve
nothing more than the creation of another generation of professional
couch potatoes . (This one is our pet peeve...get an education and go to
work....don't expect everyone else to take care of you!)

ARTICLE V: You DO NOT have the right to free health care.

That would be nice, but from the looks of public housing, we're just not
interested in public health care.

ARTICLE VI: You DO NOT have the right to physically harm other people.

If you kidnap, rape, intentionally maim, or kill someone, don't be
surprised if the rest of us want to see you fry in the electric chair.

ARTICLE VII: You DO NOT have the right to the possessions of others.

If you rob, cheat or coerce away the goods or services of other citizens,
don't be surprised if the rest of us get together and lock you away in a
place where you still won't have the right to a big screen color TV or a
life of leisure.

ARTICLE VIII: You DO NOT have the right to a job.

All of us sure want you to have a job, and will gladly help you along
in hard times, but we expect you to take advantage of the opportunities
of education and vocational training laid before you to make yourself
useful....AMEN.

ARTICLE IX: You DO NOT have the right to happiness.

Being an American means that you have the right to PURSUE happiness,
which, by the way, is a lot easier if you are unencumbered by an over-
abundance of idiotic laws created by those of you who were confused by
the original U.S. Bill of Rights in the first place.

ARTICLE X: This is a English-speaking country.

We don't care where you are from; English is our language. Learn it, or
go back to wherever you came from!

And, lastly....

ARTICLE XI: You DO NOT have the right to change our country's history or
heritage.

This country was founded on the belief in one true God. And yet, you are
given the freedom to believe in any religion, any faith, or no faith at all;
with no fear of persecution. The phrase "IN GOD WE TRUST" is part of
our heritage and history, and if you are uncomfortable with it: TOUGH.
Don't start none...won't be none.

Let's say I break into your house

A lady wrote the best letter in the Editorials
in ages!!! It explains things better than all
the baloney you hear on TV.

Her point:

Recently large demonstrations have taken place
across the country protesting the fact that Congress
is finally addressing the issue of illegal immigration.

Certain people are angry that
the US might protect its own
borders, might make it harder
to sneak into this country and,
once here, to stay indefinitely.

Let me see if I correctly understand
the thinking behind these protests.
Let's say I break into your house.
Let's say that when you discover
me in your house, you insist that I leave.

But I say, 'No! I like it here.
It's better than my house. I've made all
the beds and washed the
dishes and did the laundry
and swept the floors. I've
done all the things you don't
like to do. I'm hard-working
and honest
(except for when I broke into your house).

According to the protesters:

You are Required to let me stay in your house
You are Required to feed me
You are Required to add me to your family's insurance plan
You are Required to Educate my kids
You are Required to Provide other benefits to me & to my family

My husband will do all of your yard work because
he is also hard-working and honest. (except for that breaking in part).

If you try to call the police or force me out,
I will call my friends who will picket your
house carrying signs that proclaim my
RIGHT to be there.

It's only fair, after all, because you have
a nicer house than I do, and I'm just
trying to better myself. I'm a hard-working
and honest, person, except for well,
you know, I did break into your house
And what a deal it is for me!!!

I live in your house, contributing only a
fraction of the cost of my keep, and
there is nothing you can do about it
without being accused of cold, uncaring, selfish, prejudiced, and
bigoted behavior.

Oh yeah, and I DEMAND that you learn
MY LANGUAGE!!! so that you can
communicate with me.

Why can't people see how ridiculous
this is?! America is populated and governed by idiots.

If you agree, pass it on (in English).
If not blow it off......... along with your future Social Security funds and a lot of the former benefits of being an American Citizen.

Right on HB!

That WAS good.

And if anyone thinks that is harsh, remember this:

If you sneak INTO Mexico .....you go straight to JAIL.

Just a brief thought looking through the headlines this morning... look at these faces.

Image

None of those faces say "honesty" or "integrity". If I were a casting director these are exactly the kinds of faces I'd use for crime bosses or (dare I say it?) corrupt politicians.

Were these faces any better?

Image

I'm not sure about "better", but they're different. They do look like characters out of a season of 24. But as a casting director I wouldn't use them for crime bosses. Still working on what these faces say to me exactly.

Take a good hard look at them all, Elf.

They'll be long gone in the next election(s), if not incarcerated beforehand.
