Alex at 36!

Post by awip2062 »

Did anyone else see the March Guitar World magazine? It had the 100 Greatest Metal Guitrists in it. Alex came out at #36.

Dweeb, Tony Iommi came out as #1! *razz*

Here are the top twenty:

Iommi
Hammet and Hetfield
Angus & Malcolm Young
Randy Rhoads (yay! Randy beat out Eddie!)
Eddie Van Halen
Jimmy Page
Dimebag Darrell
Zakk Wylde
Adam Jones
Kerry King & Jeff Hanneman
Dave Murray & Adrian Smith
Jimi Hendrix
Glenn Tipton & Kevin Kenneth Downing (proud of this, PV? )
Ace Frehley & Paul Stanley
Slash
Ritchie Blackmore
Yngwie Malmsteen
Joe Perry & Brad Whitford
Dave Mustaine & Marty Friedman
Chuck Schuldiner

They had good things to say about Alex; it was nice to read!

Hammet kicks all their asses!

Anyways, that's not a bad spot for him on that poll. Those things are so touch and go, the guys from Korn got something like #40! ;)

Hammet does what?!?!?!?

sigh

Son, you need to listen to more Sabbath. I mean, Hammet, yes, he is cool, he rocks, but Tony, Page,.... oh, man! So many of those guys are just amazing! And, Hammet would tell you that many of those guys influenced him.

Alright, but you still need to listen to more Sabbath!

But don't go dissin' Hamet, either, unless you can beat him in a guitar dual! The man is talented. I wouldn't put him in #2, but he is quite good.

I typically don't go around dissing famous musicians, I just don't like those polls! He is good though ;)

Man where is John Petrucci from Dream Theater?

He has some chops now..

But the members of Dream Theatre ARE notorious Rush fans... Mike Portnoy wrote a bit for the japanese release of Vapor Trails.

But I agree both ways: Petrucci has chops, but no flair. I always thought Eddie Van Halen sounded like that too.

Good to see the Young Bros. placed 3rd (As opposed to the #96 that Rolling stone gave Angus!)

Also good to see that Iommi is getting some well-deserved recognition...

However, I have to root for Page, as I am a pretty big Zeppelin fan.

And who is Adam Jones?

And where was Steve Vai?

And out of curiosity, what did they have to say about Alex?

WOO! Plaster Caster!
Wheels within whells, a spiral array
A pattern so grand and complex
Time after time, we loose sight of the way
Our causes can't see their effects
