Neil on girth

I'm reading Ghost Rider for the third or fourth time now (I love this book). Last night I came upon a passage that always bugs me just a little bit.

"I also noted how many older men I had noticed on this trip, Americans and Canadians, who wore their jeans belted and slung under their protruding bellies, allowing them to pretend they still wore the same waist size by pushing their belts ever lower down their backsides."

Well, Neil, though I'm not obese, in my middle age (I turn 41 tomorrow) I have gained some flab around the middle. It's no one's fault but mine, and I take full responsibility for it. However, the reasons I tighten my belt underneath my "spare tire" isn't so that I can pretend I still wear the same waist size. It has to do with the laws of physics.

Since my midriff is roughly the shape of an egg with a bump in the lower regions (my backside), if I were to try to put my belt line around the widest point of the egg, as soon as gravity took hold you'd see my pants fall to the floor (happenes to old men all the time on America's Funniest Home Videos). So, I pretty much HAVE to put the belt between my belly and my backside in order to keep my pants up.

Now, having said that, I need to lose the weight so that I can join Neil in taking jabs at fat people. :P

Well, all I can say, is now he has to make sure his middle stays slim or else he wil lbe a hypocrite!

Bahahahahahaha!

And he can never go on a tour and wear a name tag while going through the chow line!

Likely not, but still.

So, when are you going running with me Elfie?

I can't run at the moment... foot troubles. But I do bike ride every chance I get.

I think he probably thought/wrote that out of frustration. He doesnt seem like the kind of guy who'd discriminate based on weight or anything else silly like that. But I remember that passage made me giggle the first time I read it.
