Children and Politics
Have any of you seen the books that are out there supposedly to teach children about politics such as Why Mommy is a Democrat and Help Mommy! There are Liberals Under My Bed!?
These books concern me because blanket statements such as these ones in
Why Mommy is a Democrat, "Democrats make sure we all share our toys, just like Mommy does," and, "Democrats make sure children can go to school, just like Mommy does," make it look as if conservatives don't want you to share or go kids to go to school.
As for the consevative book, it pretty much just tells the kids that liberalism is bad, and conservatism is good. That is indoctrination, not real teaching.

I'd heard of one of those books. I haven't seen either of them.
My older daughter is sick of politics in music and wish musicians would just keep it to themselves. She asked me the other day, "Have things always been this political? Or is it just now?"
I told her that in her life it hasn't always been this bad. But that right now:
1. We at war, and many don't think we should be. So there's a lot of anger about that.
2. The bulk of the media outlets hate the current president, so they turn EVERYTHING into politics, including natural disasters, in an attempt to make him look bad.
3. She has a news junkie for a dad. So she probably hears more about it than some kids.
She's sick of it all, but especially from musicians.

On the lighter side of things there are cartoons to help us smirk away the weight of this dismal political freakshow.

It's only about 40 seconds long, and view with tongue firmly planted in cheek.

Kinda funny. They got their economy facts all bass-ackwards, but still kinda funny.Big Blue Owl wrote:On the lighter side of things there are cartoons to help us smirk away the weight of this dismal political freakshow.

We've had two presidents in a row with funny southernish accents. I hope the next one is articulate and easy on the ears.

As to the sound of people's voices, I wonder how many music reviewers out there have compared Geddy Lee to a dentist drill...
