How did I know you'd feel that way? Jimmy doesn't givva crap about Rush. Colbert is the (what's the name for us?) Rush freak.ElfDude wrote:I definitely like Jimmy more than Mr. Colbert!
I thought that they would just play the song and fade away. I had no idea that the entire show would be threaded with Rushisms. No reason to believe that Stephen would do an interview. I have to say, I was in HEAVEN! I'm still floating around at work with the show in my head. Man, how far they have come.
Here is the show for anyone who missed it, wants to watch it at work and for those who don't watch TV.

Mixed feelings overall.....
Okay, the cut off at the end as a gag
about the epic songs
was funny but ONLY
if they didn't break for 90 seconds in the middle too.
First time on US TV in 30 years and we get less than a 45 rpm record version.
I mean why plug them the whole show to get 2 1/2 minutes of a song?
My wife was even upset, and she's not the hugest fan in the world.
The upside was the interview, which Neil dominated.
I thought Colbert running in mid-song was funny too.
Geddy smiled if you watch when the camera cuts to him at the keys
after Colbert runs off.
The teleprompter gag was good too.
Nice they picked an obscure song there.
Very funny stuff.
I'm surprised the whole kit was there myself.
I'm wondering if they played anything else that will be packaged on a DVD of the show.

Oh, I get it, don't worry. I know that Stephen describes the man we see on his show as a "character" that he plays. In the same vein, Jimmy the director was a character last night as well. If I say I like Gilligan more than Skipper, it doesn't have to mean I like Bob Denver more than Alan Hale.Big Blue Owl wrote:How did I know you'd feel that way? Jimmy doesn't givva crap about Rush. So, the whole schtick about Jimmy changing the theme music, then playing Anthem when Stephen demanded his anthem... I loved the whole thing. Jimmy changing the teleprompter to display the lyrics to By-Tor and the Snow Dog. These were great gags!
And yes, it was delightful to see them interviewed. Kares, I really did laugh out loud when Neil made that quip about eBay.
My 13 year-old was also offended about the song being cut (since seeing the song Comfortably Numb cut by MTV during their Live 8 coverage, I have come to expect the worst when bands are on TV). I think she simply said, "NO!" when they went to commercial. She was also full of questions about why Alex had a bunch of Barbie dolls in front of him. And she got a kick out of the little Neil doll and kit on the rotating platform.
All in all, a fun half-hour!
Aren't you the guy who hit me in the eye?

You are very welcome, t. You will laugh a LOT!
"The band Rush is here...either that or a drum factory exploded in my studio."
"This is not just great for Jimmy, it's also great for me. Right now, Rush has the 4th most consecutive gold albums of any rock band in history. And once they get the Colbert bump they'll be number one and The Beatles will have to come on my show to even things out. Ball's in your court, lads."

How about, "Jimmy, just think of me as the 'opening act' OK?"
Jimmy: "OK, then I'm going to get a beer."
Freeze this moment a little bit longer...

A
And,
"What do your fans fans call themselves, Rushians?"
Neil: "They have their own names."
Oh, yes. I hope that generates a little bit of controversy about this crappy oversight.nd that "Rush has the 4th most consecutive gold albums of any rock band in history" line was a great way to set up the question about the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame question later, wasn't it?
