The only hunting I've ever done has not really been hunting, but rather killing critters what my harm my pets or kids (namely rattlers) that came into populated areas.

Fishing, well, that is a different story. I've fished since I was a kid, and you've all seen my photos from last June in Alaska.

Myg, getting back to what we were talking about before we
were chopped-off-at-the-kneecaps-and-rightly-so:

... you can catch all the sunfish family here.

Bluegill, pumpkinseeds, shellcrackers, and the black ones we call
redeyes or rock bass. Tons of fight out of such a little fish.

It's a great trip for kids because they feel like whales to a kid when
they hook 'em on light tackle, they're easy to catch and they'll wear
the kids out after a couple of hours.

I go to the mountains and catch native brook trout, but the
natives don't get very big. You catch a 7 inch native and you're
doing good. Too warm here to sustain big trout. Big rainbows,
brookies and browns have to be stocked.

If the fishin's bad that day, I can always go to the hatchery and
catch 'em pay-as-you-go. That's also excellent for the kids or
anybody that's new to trout fishing.

When I was a kid we used to catch bluegill in the water trap of the Air Force Base Golf Course.

A 3 foot stick, kite string, hook and the bait....................A lil chunk of styrofoam(sp) cup.

One day we caught 19 Bluegill and a we Catfish in the water trap.

That and catching a tree once, and driving a boat is my fishing experience.

One day I was fishing for catfish and ran out of bait...

(Interesting side note here - when catfishing, if you use chicken livers,
cut some of wifey's or granny's old nylons up into 3" squares and put the liver
into that, bring the corners up into a sack and use the hook to fasten the corners.
It keeps the liver together, lets the scent flow though and
lets you keep on fishin' for HOURS! NOTE: This was after my shoestring epiphany)

Anywho, I cut a piece of white SHOESTRING from my sneaker and
caught more!

Carp too, but I gave them to the indigents. Nuthin' like spicy fried
catfish though.....ohhhohhohhhohhh ***drools***

Ah bluegills are sunfish, we have a lot of rock bass and those things round here too. we just call em all sunfish, ours are the ones with the red dot right by the gills. Used to do some sucker or carp snaggin by the damn in youth.It could be a mite entertaining. Used to get pretty angry at the sunfish and or tiny catfish though, unless it was early spring before they got in the mud.

Snagging with treble hooks has been outlawed here for many years,
but I did it as a teen and would snag shad at our dam that happens
to be migratory hickory shad and herring spawning grounds.

When you got one of those big shad hooked sideways, it was like trying
to reel in a tree branch sideways, 'cept it fought back. LOL

We'd salt 'em down and cure 'em so the bones didn't bother you when
eating the bony bastards. They were like big sardines when cured.

I never said snagging them was legal

just something you do as a kid.

WE had a friend who would smoke up sturgeon and trout, I have never caught a sturgeon unfortunately, but have a friend who caught an 81 lber. They look like they would be quite the battle to catch
