Big British By-toreans' Boozing Barty! (beware blizzards)

Post by Devil's Advocate »

(Ok, so Party begins with a P and blizzards aren't all that likely in November, but alliteration is fun.)

This is the place for planning the UK-by-toreans' get-together this autumn. So, Schu, Ogg, any other Brits who want to meet us, your input is required, or else I'll start making executive decisions.....

We need to pick a date, which, as far as rushlight and I are concerned means me gotta get my sis to remind me when her wedding is, and all of us gotta decide if we are set on doing this thing on a weekend - would it be easier, or not, to meet up mid-week? 'Light's here from late Oct to early Dec.

We also need to settle on a location, which for me means sticking a pin in the map, if we're all happy with the somewhere-north-of-Birmingham, as suggested in the other thread. Other suggestions of location are of course welcome.

And I think we might want to discuss duration too.... Are we gonna meet one afternoon, have a few beers that evening, then go all the way home the very next day? Or are we gonna make a couple of days of it? A whole weekend? And if we're not gonna spend the whole time in the pub, does anyone have any suggestions, plans, ideas on how else we might disturb the peace, terrorise the neighbourhood, etc?

Location: how does Crewe or Nantwich sound to everyone? A friend of mine got married a few miles from there last year, and me being the hoarder that I am, I still have the list of local guesthouses that he and his wife-to-be sent out everyone.

Prices, which were for April '04, ranged from ~?20 per night to.... well, you don't wanna know. But most were in the ?30 to ?50 range.

I'm on two weeks holiday (stuck at home) but I have a week off late Oct' early Nov' . I'd probably take the train stay one night somewhere. More when I'm aware of the relevant dates.

For me, if I can make it (which I'll try), it would be a day thing only.

Update from me: my sister's wedding is Nov 12th, so that weekend's not an option for rushlight and me.

Ogg and Slaine: if Ogg's arriving in the evening and Slaine only around in the daytime, you two may end up missing each other, like ships in the night. Depends on train timetables and the like, I guess.

Schue: try http://www.multimap.com or http://maps.google.co.uk :)

It's as near to half-way between you and Ogg as I could think of, and still have a train station with a decent likelihood of neither of you needing more than one train to get there. :)

Schu: google is your friend.... trainline.co.uk used to advertise on TV, or there's whoever replaced RailTrack. Or your local train station.

Or maybe a bus would be cheaper.

I was looking at a calendar earlier. How does everyone feel about the weekend of October 29th?

Sounds good D.A. I can't wait to meet the fellow By-toreans. I'll take lots of disposable cameras for picture taking. (Just teasing D.A. You should have seen me when I first went to visit him with lots of disposable cameras in my bag.)

Any new info on your time off, Ogg?

 It's getting closer now. Before you know it, we'll be in October already. Get your butt over to Texas D.A.! I'm thinking about taking my digi camera but I understand about the different amounts of electricity between San Antonio and Wales. If my battery needs a recharge, I won't be able to plug in my recharger. Poo. Any thoughts? :?
